Motorbike vs bear

I agree with Mac. From the point the bear is actually on the roadway, you would only need to get off the throttle to avoid the hit. Probably wouldn't even need much brake.

I had a very similar experience with a coyote in Manitoba last summer. All I needed to do was roll off the throttle a tad to make it a manageable miss with no dramatics.

Although, sometimes you aren't always watching the road 100% and then, crap happens. Hope the rider was okay.

Looks avoidable but I imagine a whole bunch of things were going through his mind not the least of which was wondering if the bear would keep going or get spooked and turn back around. Not to mention the shock of seeing a bear on the road. A bear ran across my path on Southwood Rd last month but luckily I wasn't going fast.

If that crash didn't get him, the bear probably got ****** off and ****ed him up....

Breakfast Television showed this video this morning. They prefaced it by saying the RCMP has released this video as a warning to speeders. The suggested speed of the motorcyclist - 140kph.

Apparently - if you speed - a black bear will come outta nowhere and judo-chop you off your bike. I am quite confident this accident could happen even if you're doing the speed limit or less. This did not happen because of speed. This happened because of bad luck.

Never hit a deer or wildlife speeding, but I did smoke one doing under 80 in a 90 zone.

Argh...the anti speed faggots are going at it again...

What the **** does speeding have to do with a bear running out at you?! You could be doing a right turn and hit a rat that runs out and tumble like this guy did! SDKFJ@#(*&@#$ *RAGE*

When I rode up to thunder bay last year I had three seperate instances of bears walking or running across the road, luckily they were far enough ahead of me that I had plenty of time to stop.
It's weird though ,a bear can just be lumbering along so slowly and then just sprint for no apparent reason, they just seem really hard to predict.I don't know ...

And just as a heads up ,their are a ton of black bears north of sue saint marie now,a local in wawa told me it's because the "evil" government(lol) has cut the hunting season in half

edit-also just to add -wawa is where the opp trains a lot of new recruits so "beware the bears and the beasts";)

As far as the motorcyclist posibly being able to avoid the bear, maybe ,maybe not ,he hit it ,end of story

Kind of like how distracted we always are looking at the speedometer and at the side of the roads, behind trees, traffic signs and bridges and exits and entrances to the hwy to ensure there isn't a ****ing cop with a radar, because the speed limits are 100km/hr on an 8 lane HWY

No point here, nothing to see
