MOSPORT - August 22nd!!!

Have you been there before ?

If not, you can "drive" the track" with iRacing for $12 for 3 months.

The Mosport track will cost you an additional $15

All iRacing tracks have been laser scanned, so they are identical to the real thing.

The sim is driveable with a game pad / joystick or even just keyboard + mouse, but much more enjoyable and easier with
a racing wheel / pedals.

P.S I DON'T get anything ($$) out of this .. I'm just a member at iRacing and have fun putt putting around as I'm about the
slowest "racer" there :/

No, this will be my first time there.
I find that I learn best by actually getting out there and riding.

So, who's going?

Was looking to go to this just couldn't justify the $260 bill for one day, going to TMP instead and GB on Saturday and Sunday for GTAM days. Let us know how it turns out, how the day is organized and how many sessions you get to ride. I know at Cayuga on a Thursday we'll likely do 2 groups only and have double the track time

Mosport is awesome - definitely worth the $260 if you want my opinion. And you definitely do not need to study ahead much to learn the track - it is only 10 turns and all but one are fast sweepers. T2 is really the only one where the correct line is not obvious (and maybe T5, but that is the slow hairpin). As far as I know it is the only track in Ontario where you can truly approach the aero-limited top speed of a modern sport bike. Very exciting.

Hope you have a great time. Who is the organizer?

Thanks, I'm definitely looking forward to it! Rider's Choice is running the day.

Organizer is Riders choice I believe. Anyone know if there are still spots left? I've been there in July for the first time and I can tell you it is worth every penny just like Bogie. It may be the last chance to get out there as there may not be any bike trackdays there next year. (Hope that's not true) And yes you can find the top speed of your bike on that back straight. Yahoo.

PS; I believe it is just before vintage bike weekend there so there will be lots of "vintage" bikes out on the track.... leaking oil all over the track I'm told. lol. J/K.

When I did Pro 6's trackday in July Sandy said it was their last trackday that they would be hosting at Mosport (CTMP). CTMP would not offer him anything for next year. I hope that will change but for the moment that's what I'm hearing.

I'm in a pot stirring mood this morning, so I'm going to throw this out there: I'm never going back to Mosport on a bike unless they do something to make it safe for bikes, which they won't, so I'm never going back. :( After seeing the AM SBK crash last weekend it confirms everyone's safety concerns with the paved out runoffs. I know you guys will come back with "But it's just a track day, don't push so hard that you could have a crash like that." and I'll counter that now with "BS. Sh*t happens no matter how much you're pushing it". At those speeds any crash has a high probability of being a bad crash. Call me a chicken if you want to, but with clearly no regard for bike safety, the owners have successfully made it a full-on death trap, not just the half-assed death trap it was before.

I am going to go get some popcorn.

The marshall at Turn 2 on Thursday track day kept a count throughout the day. 17 bikes used the new asphalt to recover from a mistake and therefore avoided crashing.

Going for the first time next thursday, excited and scared sh%$less at the same time.

I know, I want some popcorn too. It's a slow Friday at work, sorry about this one, folks ;)

Yeah, using the runoff... I have to wonder if those mistakes were really anywhere close to bad enough to warrant a runoff. Has there ever been a track day, before the paved runoff, with 17 crashes in turn 2?

I feel sorry for you, I guess you won't ever ride on any track again then , because you could probably find something wrong/unsafe with every track in north america . We make an educated decision to participate in a very dangerous sport, and we all know full well what the consequences could be if something goes wrong. I think a lot of tracks have made great progress in terms of safety over the years , but at the end of the day , you can never prevent accidents , and sometimes they can be disastrous, that's just reality unfortunately. Anyways we are off topic here, and I reallllly wish I could get that Thursday off work....., mosport is an amazing track!

Not sure how much of that crash you saw but there was plenty of run off.

I know, and I make that decision every time. I was at Grand Bend yesterday sliding my bike all over the place testing rear tires with different stages of wear. It was a conscious decision, and I understood the risks. There are no walls to run into at GBM. At TMP there is a nice pit wall, and I never push through the last corner because of it. GBM and TMP are also very slow. Mosport, being something like the 2nd fastest track in the world, demands a bit more respect. Turning into turn 8 at 260km/h leaves a lot of openings for bad things to happen. You tuck the front there and you slide straight to the wall, just like we saw last weekend, and exactly like a lot of people predicted last year when the paving was done. If it was still the old gravel trap I would still ride there, even though a bad tumble in the gravel has other serious risks. I'll take a tumble in gravel over a tumble on asphalt any day.
