Mileage too High?

Hey All,

About to close to finalizing a deal on my first bike deal. I've pretty much wrapped up negotiations and he's delivering it in two weeks. I just want to make sure everything sounds reasonable and so I'm deferring to the experts here:

It's a 2007 500cc Ninja. Yellow - the colour I wanted and hard to come by.
It has 14000kms on it. The owner is original and got it straight from Kawasaki. He's a motorcross racer by profession and took care of this bike really well. Never dropped or raced. There's some extras with the bike, like full hindle exhaust/headers/ jd carb jetting, K&N air filers, and cosmetic upgrades like bar ends, signals, flip plate, etc.

I'm buying it from him at $3700. I'm wondering what would be considered "high mileage" on these Ninjas as 14000 is a bit high compared to the other Ninjas out there. Is that something I should be concerned about? I want to keep this bike for awhile... at least 5 years.

Thanks.

That is not high mileage. First thing after you get it, remove the flip plate. If caught with that it is a massive ticket.

Is this a new record? A post indicating 14,000 km being too high?

It's fine, buy it, enjoy it.

A flip plate on an EX-500? LOL - anyway, you're gonna want to lose that, probably.

Edit: Oh yeah, and 14,000kms is low mileage, nothing to worry about.

I don't even understand the point of it? He just demonstrated it and I never asked about its purpose.

Running from the cops or avoiding camera tolls? Seems kind of sketchy haha. I might swap out the Hinder exhaust back to the stock one as well, when I get around learning how to maintain the bike.

I think 14,000 km sets the new record for someone thinking as being "high mileage" ...

There is a GTAM member out there with an EX500 that has over 100,000 km on it. Maintenance is important and not abusing them is important. "Abuse" mostly means things like botched gear shifts. Riding at wide open throttle, as long as it is within factory redline, is not all that hard on the engine as long as it has oil and coolant in it ...

Thanks everyone. I guess it was more in the context of pricing and relative to the others being sold, considering all the other Ninjas have about 5k max of mileage on them around the same years.

That's low milage for surre. But come on a ex500 used for 3700. Sounds like your getting bent over to me

All the Ninjas out there within the last 5 years are selling at least 3k. Seems like the whole market is bent over to me.

Edit: Ninja 250s

Well what year Is it, friend of mine got a 2000 ex500 with 25 k for 1500 bucks. End of season deal bargined down from 2200

First post has all the info regarding the bike ;) It's 2007. Maintained well be a mature original owner. Has a few addons. Posted for 4000. Sounded reasonable. But I defer to the experted here to let me know if I'm getting ripped off. Because if I am, the rest of the bikes on Kijiji are a rip off right now.

Sounded like your friend got a real deal. But just because not everyone gets a real deal, it doesn't mean everything else is a rip off.

if you run the crap out of it, high rpm's around red line, the crankshaft will seperate.
