might buy it; but it's been sitting a long time. Advice?

My pal bought a C50 in 2007. He didn't have a place to store it, so it stayed at my place. I'd take it around town once a week or so. Then he rode it. He unfortunately took a tumble and well, decided this hobby wasn't for him. So the bike has been parked, since fall 2007 at his place. Hasn't moved. Same oil, I don't even think he stabilized the gas. the 500kms on it are the ones I put on it. I'm tempted to now take it off his hands. But can you guys think of anything I should be aware of? I figure several minds are better than one, any ideas or things to keep in mind/look at would be appreciated.

IN particular, I'm wondering about the fuel system -- how bad could it be? I've never had a FI bike, so would the injectors be clogged and all need replacing?

THanks in advance.

unless there were extreme temperature changes where the bike was stored, there shouldn't be any issues really.

What about bikes that sit at a dealership for a year or 3?

a simple look over of the bike to check it's components make sure no mice built homes anywhere, things that move, still do, things that are supposed to be tight, still are. Fresh oil change, new gas, giv'r 90!

Best part, if he wants to get rid of it anyway, you're probably going to get a good price, considering he is your pal. Better cash in hand than a bike taking up space for another 5 years in his garage.

Good luck.

I doubt the injectors need replacing, cleaning maybe but start with fuel additive (like seafoam) first as it's so much cheaper and easier.

Since this is your buddy, can't you work out a deal (ie. let him know you are interested but want to check it out, bring it back to your house, change the gas and oil, get it running etc. before you give him the cash). Even if you decide not to buy it, he has a bike that is in better shape and you haven't invested much time or money.

I've worked enough time at bike shops to see a "what's wrong with it? btw.... it's been sitting for a while" issue. Anything can happen... it can be a simple plug/oil/fuel change or worse.

Example:

If you're handy, you could offer to change the oil, fuel and plugs (or get him to offset the cost) and if all works well, then off-set from the purchase price.
