Merlin 3000 alarm - wires cut

I just purchased a used bike with a Merlin alarm system installed. The dealer said it was simply disconnected to save battery. Just got back from my spring service and asked the tech to reconnect the alarm. When he removed the fairing, all the black wire leads (one of them live; still connected to the battery) were cut. Does anyone know anything about the Merlin systems? Is it trash now that the black leads have been cut with no obvious way to distinguish which black wire is for what? Are these alarm systems even worth having?

If the dealer published/posted an advertisement with the bike outfitted with an alarm, it's the dealers problem to figure it out. If not, well can't help ya there.

I think you are screwed... I would go back to the dealer and "demand" that the fix it. It probably won't work 'cause all they will say is "you should of checked it before leaving" or something like that.

If you look at the installation guide, there's a lot of black wires coming out of the "brains" of the alarm. Some are ground and some are 12V+. You don't want to mix those.

One thing you can do is rip the alarm out and start over.

Good luck

I'm sure if you have a schematic you could trace back and fix it.

I'd love to help! Always down for a good electrical challenge

here you go...

Had something similar happen to me. Initially the dealer said get stuffed then I produced the ad to the UCDA and their attorney contacted the dealer. The dealer contacted me and they booked me in and fixed the problem. I think OMVIC deals with these things now.

If they advertised the bike has an alarm, then they have to deliver it to you in working order, if not, then ya, you're screwed, unless the dealer does it on a good will basis.
