Yeah I dunno, generally I would assume that means I can't afford to eat there

I wouldn't care what the price was, if it's not shown on the menu I'm getting up and walking out. The customer has a right to know what he or she is paying. I do the same in grocery and retail stores. If an item isn't priced it stays on the shelf, it's not my job to find someone to do a price check. I'm already employed at the self check out.

Noticed a trend to putting up lovely looking menus but no prices here in Aus.
Makes it a bit hard to figure out where to eat or what to eat.

I can see maybe at a Michellin eatery but a coffee spot???
In the days of masculinity and chivalry the male got the menu with prices and his date got the one without. Assuming he was going to pay it was his job to steer the selection. She didn't get to know his finances.

In some cases here the prices seem to be set hidden by incorporating subtle fonts into the description. As far as unpriced merchandise in a store, it stays on the shelf.

Sounds like another example of the world gone to sht, now we need dynamic pricing at cafes, with surge pricing as well. Oh that will be $20 for your coffee...

You just triggered a memory from Japan.
When I first went to Japan in the 70s I could book a mid level commercial hotel beside the Imperial Palace for $69 US a night including breakfast (the food choice I found strange but very tasty ).

The last time I visited Japan in 1982 on my honeymoon we had coffee on a top floor of a hotel overlooking the city.
$20 US a cup. 🤪

I'm wondering if we soon will be able to stand outside an eatery and bid on eating there...
"I'll have your ribs for $25 mate"

I’ve only seen menus where the fish / seafood and occasional steak is called market price . Not yet experienced a non price menu …yet

Some auto dealerships are worse.

I had a problem with my Elantra and found out that it was a safety switch for the transmission. I called and asked if it would be covered under warranty and got the call centre Q&A BS.

You have to bring it in

Is there a charge for the diagnosis?

That depends on what it is.

How long does that take?

That depends...

It's the safety switch. Where is it because if it's inside the transmission it's going to be expensive

You have to bring it in

Basically, bring it in and leave a blank cheque. From previous experience, if the switch was under warranty they'd find a number of things that needed immediate attention

It turned out that the switch was under either the battery or air cleaner and doable by the average handyman. I ended up buying another Hyundai from a different dealer with a better service attitude.

One of the trends that bug me with menus is the omission of “$” in front of the price.
Eg: Hamburger and fries……..22

22 what? 22 goats? 22 rocks? From a purely legal standpoint without “$” I could just offer 22 of anything, no? And if there is no price listed like OP mentioned, then I could simply assume it’s free lol.

Yes, I know I sound ridiculous, but still.

This trend while silly might reflect the volatility of the supply chain (goods and services) if menus had to be edited or reprinted on a regular basis that cost would be passed to the customer. Like many I typically expect pricing to be clear and present when handed a menu.

After the pandemic, a lot of places have been moving to online menus accessed on your smartphone by a QR code printed on a card on the table, in lieu of a menu handled by lots of germy, grubby hands. I always thought it would be a great way to implement surge pricing that way - bump the price of appies up for the lunch crowd, lower it back down for non-peak hours, etc.

You know, real ethical stuff like that...
