Mature Newbie from the "Shore" in Etobicoke.

I have been lurking in the background for a couple of months. I have ridden bikes here and there since 16 years old and 36 years later decided to take the Humber course beginning of Sept. and get legal. I Just picked up my M2 upgrade and bought my first bike this weekend. Getting some last minute training rides in while the weather is still good before winter storage.

I have already learned tons from this website and look forward to learning more and more and hopefully contribute things of interest from time to time.

The koogeorge is from Cujo but when I spelled it CuGeorge everyone thought it was "see you" George.

Welcome!

What bike did you get?

Welcome to the forum, George. A young fella like you can have plenty of fun on a fine bike like that one. When I was just a dozen years older than you are now, I found out how much I like long distance riding, and now I do plenty of that. It's a tad late in the year for long rides in Ontario so I am home in Florida now, and looking forward to lots of riding before spring. If you might like long rides, select a destination, and plan your ride over the winter. If you choose a province or state for your destination, you can get lots of info plus a map from that jurisdiction, and the added knowledge will make your ride more fun.

Best wishes from the place where summer spends the winter.

Welcome George, nice bike. I had a similar experience. I rode dirt bikes in my teens, but then never rode again until the age of 44 this summer when i got my m2. I live near the shore as well (browns line/lakeshore area). I've managed to get about 2000kms in since plating my bike in early September but it's all been solo riding while i built my confidence. Maybe we can hook up for some rides in the spring.

Welcome CuGeorge. You started younger than me. I just started riding last year, and if my math is right I'm 2 or 3 years older than you. L

Sounds good to me. I learned on a pre 60's Sachs/Hercules back in the 70's while in Europe. I have a couple of very local friends who ride. I have been working on skills and bike familiarty for the past few days while the weather has been good. I hope to be fully good to go for the spring. Gotta love the street car tracks on the "Shore" . Got that down to an art but I just have to work on turning off the darn turn signals right away. :D I will also get the "wave" thing down to an art once my confidence gets up there so I apologize to all the wavers that I was slow or late to respond to so far.;)

welcome.

George if you are looking for a good place free of tracks or traffic to get a bit more practice in before winter try the parking lot at Sherway Gardens mall. The north-eastern most part that faces the Queensway near the 427 bridge is almost always empty of cars (people are too lazy to park that far from the mall lol) it's a nice large chuck of pavement to ride around on. The first week i had my bike i spent every night there just playing around, getting used to stops and starts and the gears. There are sometimes other riders there as well. One time when i was there a cop came along on a bike and was watching me for a bit before getting off his bike and walking over, i thought i was gonna be told i couldn't ride there, but he said he just wanted check out my bike as it's an '84 and he was a fan of older bikes lol. He said he sometimes rides around there himself to practice his low speed manouevers.
