Matress Recommendations

Just bought an ObusForme Fusion and after six months wife and I are both noticing sag. We are both in good shape of normal weight. Too bad, as when brand new, it was super comfortable. Still under warranty, so it may have to go back. Problem is I'm finding all the reviews for all the mattresses the same...start out wonderful, then sag. Has mattress technology gone south like just about everything? Can anybody recommend a good, firm, long lasting matress?

We bought a Douglas. Made in Canada and good pricing to boot. Still like it to this day although (as I think I mentioned in the thread at some point) we did add a 3" foam topper from Costco to it - the Douglas was very firm (which I liked, it's completely eliminated my morning back soreness) but I'm a side sleeper and it was a bit tough on my shoulders given their history of problems - that little extra bit of squish with the topper with the firm support of the Douglas underneath is a match made in heaven for me.

I don't know how to qualify the firmness but it is neither hard and rigid nor is it soft and compliant. It's firm. It supports your whole body and conforms to your natural curves without creating hot spots or pressure points. It's just very good all round. I hope that helps.

This is the problem with mail order mattresses, and the main reason most offer a free return policy. The Douglas for example is advertised as "medium", but I found it super firm...probably solely because of my shoulder issues and being a side sleeper. Others say it's indeed medium. It's very subjective. If it wasn't for my shoulders I'd have been overjoyed with the firmness of the Douglas as it really did completely eliminate my morning back issues.

You could try another softer mattress and possibly not need the topper, but I'm finding it best of both worlds with the firm mattress (for my back) and the memory foam topper for my shoulders. The Douglas was a great price to start with (especially for the king we needed) and the mattress topper was only $50 or something like that at Costco, so it all worked out great.

Thanks for the suggestions, the Douglas is totally foam, which might be a good thing as there's no springs to go weak, but if you add a three inch pillow top are you not taking away the cooling gel technology?

We need a new one and I looked at both Endy and Douglas...how firm is the Endy?
If you want to go Endy check the link I posted for the friends and family discount from the company that may or may not have strong ties with Endy.

Serta Perfect Sleeper - pillow top conventional mattress

on the soft side and extremely comfortable
but it always came back to shape
it was expensive but worth every cent

Bought a $3500 Serta 15 years ago. Threw it out about 6 years ago, sagged all to hell and killing my back every...single....night. Last time we ever bought the big name crap.

Bought a $400 (yep, you read it right) King sized hybrid bed in a box off Amazon to replace it. Lasted 5 years and sagged as well - at least I didn't feel bad about that at $100/year of ownership versus $400/year for the stypid Serta, especially considering the last 2 years it sucked but we kept trying to deal with it by flipping and turning it since we were ****** a $3500 mattress was going to hell at 7 years of age.

Never again.

Whatever happened to mattresses that lasted ten years? Cough, cough, China...

Perhaps Elon Musk needs to visit the bed thing.

There is a division of Kingsdown where they are manufactured right here in Woodbridge. Sleep Factory is another manufacturer and believe it’s entirely Canadian.

In recent years, they all had to jump into the memory foam deal so, everyone has it. It cheap, easy to store, easy to ship.

I’ve found the traditional pillow top, single side pillow top and with firm springs continues to serve well.

I’ve tried memory foam, gel top etc.

I sweat. A lot! And that doesn’t serve well with form or gel no matter what technology they say they have to improve.

I also use the bed for other activities beside sleeping. Ahem, try kneeling on a memory foam and you might catch what I’m saying. Great when laying on it in a show room. But, you don’t take other positions in a showroom you might do at home. Just saying.

I don’t do the double side pillow top as it tends to sag even more. One side, pillow top, firm and good down pillows.

Get the bed cover to allow easy return.

The “S” all have their top tier, medium and lower. So far I’ve been pleased with Kingsdown for the past 20 years and through the evolution of bedding. I’ve tried the new stuff and come back to simple solutions. And I get nothing for suggesting Kingsdown.

Like bike seats, everyone has different opinions. Too firm, too soft, blah blah.......

I’m on year 7 with the latest sleep set. Doing well. The pillows, I’ve burned through a few. Even with the covers. What can I say? I sweat!
