Master link clip (chain)

Does anyone know if just the clip for a master link can be bought anywhere?

I just put a smaller sprocket on my bike, and had to shorten the chain.
Long story short, I broke the little clip that holds the master link on, and I don't want to buy another $10 master link just for the clip.

Thanks for any suggestions.

The clip comes with the link. Unless someone has a spare sittiing around you might be s.o.l.

That's kind of what I figured, but was hoping someone would tell me about a bin of them at some hardware store for $0.25 each.

You can buy master links pretty cheap
They're $10 at the local bike shop - do you know of anywhere cheaper?
(I don't have a problem paying $10 if I needed the whole master link, but all I need is just that damn little clip!)

It's funny what we'll easliy pay for yet moan about a $10 master link....just sayin'.

I hope you realize every chain manufacture and model/size use different clips, and it wouldnt be the smartest idea to use one that isnt designed specifically for your chain. You wont be saving any money if that chain falls off, because you used whatever clip you could find...

Generally they all have unique specs, in terms of pin size, distance between pins, thickness, etc etc......And just because it fits, doesnt mean its going to work properly....

If I needed the whole master link, I wouldn't be moaning.
The $10 is not the issue - it's like having to buy a big mac combo when you just want a small fries.

Fair enough - I figured that all 525 O-Ring chains would use the same sized clip.

Looks like I'll be buying the whole link tonight... I just wanted to check in with the experts here before buying more than I needed.

Thanks for the answers, fellas!

If its from the same brand/model/size then no problem, but from my experience they are all slightly different...I have many spares lying around, but wouldnt feel right giving them to someone to use on just any chain....Maybe for a temporary emergency situation to get you home or whatever, but not for the long term...

Well, if you have one that you happen to be sure it is from a DID 525 ORing chain, I'd gladly pay you $5 for it... LOL.

Just out of curiosity, how do you end up with spares?
(Assuming each master link comes with one only... and you've used the master links...?)

Alot of times a chain comes standard with clip style link, but I dont trust them so I order a rivet style to replace it...So I end up with a spare link and clip....

Master links should not be reused to start with. With our machines if a master link was removed for whatever reason, a new one is put in its place.

Yep, new master link - but I broke the clip (didn't have the plate pressed on far enough, so it didn't seat properly in the groove).

Anyways, got the new masterlink last night and go it on properly and safely.

Riding in this morning with the new sprocket was a deeelight!
