Anyone know of any sites that you could plug in your s destination and it would show you things like hotels.... rest stops fuel etc? Considering riding home to Calgary for a visit. I just know there's not much between here and even Winnipeg for stops. From the the praries suck to drive but riding might be a different story. Anyone ever done this drive? Any help would be appreciated.

The software that comes with Garmin GPS units, Mapsource, has that, you just need to set the detail level.

I've gone as far as Winnipeg on my bike. I stayed over night in Sault Ste Marie and Thunder Bay. I prebooked the hotels. I didn't ride at night so I didn't have any issue finding fuel and food.

If you stick on the trans Canada there are motels and fuel/ food at pretty regular intervals, few long stretches leaving thunder bay to Manitoba, but nearly every small town has a gas pump. The GPS is a good idea, but remember its only as helpful as the software updates. When Clem shuts down the burger barn/ gas pump in Lively Ont. he doesn't inform Garmin or TomTom.

Shouldn't be a problem if you're taking some main roads once in a while. You've got to be off the beaten path to not find a service station.
For hotels, I don't like surprises, I research in advance and create a list with addresses. Punch those addresses in at the end of the day on your gps.
Oh yeh, its cheaper if you just show up rather than pre-book. You might not be guaranteed a room at that hotel, but just move on to the next one.
