Making it all fit (garage pics)

It’s too small but it’s my space and it houses my obsession for wheeled toys.
For the last four years I was able to have a 40x20 shop for work stuff and my home garage was my cave.
This year I had to merge them together. It’s been a lot of work but I’ve done it And kept everything accessible.
kids bike parking and hose area
the art that’s not allowed in the living room ?
I love this space and can be found here until this Covid19 blows over.

Very nice.

I like the use of a rim for the hose holder

I Like the kids parking area.
I have some metal brackets that can be used for the bikes to hang one. My kids are not strong enough for this yet.

Sometimes found in condo bicycle cages but I am not sure if I will be using them. Might just make something out of 2x4 as you did.
Although where the bikes would be parked is the well where I would make store the motorcycle lift if I can find one on a deal.

I have 20 years worth of stuff in my garage...and that garage has seen a ton of things over the years from rebuilding multiple engines, to storing jetskis, to being a workshop for home renos, to storing endless tools and equipment, and in general just being a repository for 20 years worth of cruft as well, much of the old useless stuff of which I've purged in the last few weeks.

And there's a snowmobile in there as well that hasn't seen the light of day for probably close to 18 years now but has sentimental value more than anything.

Over the last month I've spent probably a week of long days reorganizing what had become a nightmarish mess. I spent $500 at Lowes buying some racking and storage bins & buckets and reorganized the storage shelving I had to make better use out of it.

It's still a work in process and I really do need to purge some more (although everything left is actually stuff I use!) but it's certainly coming along.

some one just posted a motorcycle lift at Princess auto on sale btw

I have a 4x8 work table with shelving underneath on casters. It parks under the hoist with work tools on it. I can roll to one side or outside if I want the car down for a summer cruise. The car only comes out on the nicest of days. Maybe 10 times a year.

more info on the sled in storage please...lol

Check out this guys garage (regular on Garage Journal), it is jamb packed with tools, everything in its place. Organization to aspire to....

@Clutt-225 Love that garage lift. I keep toying with the idea of getting one but my ceilings are only about 8ft or so.

I have about 10’ but realistically can’t lift Any real size car. I can work on and store the Cobra but even the wife’s little Chevy Cobalt will only go about chest height.
the Cobra has about 2” at front bumper 2” at back bumper 2” from garage door opener hitting the back fender and about an inch from Windshield hitting the fluorescent light fixture. But it fits and keeps the car nested safely away from kids bikes or other mishaps.

At 8' ceiling the lift is much less useful as a car lift. It can work well for junk. Throw the summer tires and lawn mower on it in the winter and winter tires and snowblower in the summer. Leaves enough room underneath for bikes/garbage/lawnmower/snowblower. Unless you can find one really cheap, it is pretty expensive space. With 12' ceilings, I can put the mini up and keep 6' under the platform so I am not constantly bumping my head. I couldn't put up a real car and walk under it. You'll need to have a jack shaft opener (or no power opener) as that costs you even more volumetric space.

I like that the first step was building a huge shed to move things out of the garage. That is problem the first. Not enough volume to store all of our junk (especially in an organised manner).

Just be like my neighbor. Guy has a 2.5 garage literally jammed to the rafters, every square inch filled with Christmas crap, old vacuums, endless boxes etc. could do an architectural dig in there. There is a Mercedes 220 buried in the bottom. Best part is that he stores his motorcycle and tools outside, uncovered, all year round because they won't fit. Priorities I guess, drives me nuts to see people waste a good garage.

I'm embarrassed of my garage space currently but will take a photo and post later in the day. Full of cardboard from the kids' playground and gazebo. Lot of potential though.
