I'll take that with a grain of salt.
Alcohol can be made with any sugars, starch can be broekn down to sugars if cooked. The question is, is there a cheap available source of sugar that will not compete against our food farmland?

I think most commercial alcohol is made chemically from natural gas.
The stuff we drink is distilled/fermented but most of the stuff they put in you gas tank comes from processing chemicals. I think there are a couple of fermentation operations trying to use farm waste (like corn stalks) and having free raw material would probably be necessary to make any money on it.

You want free booze? I have a recipe for sake that makes about 4 gallons of "insta-blind" rice wine moonshine in about a month. No cooking or chemistry require, just put the right ratio of sugar, yeast, rice, and water in a big tank. Mix and wait. No guarantee on tastiness, but it definitely has alcool in it. And you didn't get it from me if you die. lol.

I think you forgot to include the antifreeze, for taste.

The problem is when the distiller uses a metal pot that leaches. I have never made moonshine but if I were to follow your recipe I would use food grade pails, and copper pots. Doing this, I would give it a taste.

Half a bag of Sugar.
10 cups water.
1 teaspoon dry yeast.
pinch of grated potato.
bottle.
let breath.
16%.

I did it once in 5 gallon glass jars. I'll probably never do it again. It tasted like nail polish remover mixed with sake. And my tongue got drunk before I even swallowed it...
