I got my temporary M2 last year. I see now that the temporary one expired in November. Was I supposed to get the 'real' one in the mail? I didn't. Where does that leave me now? I thought the M2 lasted for 5 years.

Correct, you have 5 years from getting your M2 to complete your M.
Yes your permanent license should have been mailed to you. I would go into a service Ontario with your temporary one and inquire. Perhaps it got lost in the mail.
