M1 vs m2 insurance. Cheapest route

I bought a vulcan 500 last year as a paint project. I plan on riding it this summer. Since I am new to streetbike, it will be my first time being insured. I am 42 with a good driving record. Is it cheaper to insure as an m1 and do the m2 exit down the road or less to do the course and come out with m2 right off the bat?

Thx.
Paul

Well, you've only got 3 months max with the M1 (more, I guess, if you keep rewriting the test...). Most would suggest you take the course, and I'm no different. Really, it's just a smart thing to do; even if you don't learn anything (and you will) you get to whip around on dirtbikes that you don't need to give a crap about.

Im all about learning to ride your bike and become a real rider by learning YOUR BIKE. But ive tought a number of people to ride, and of them the ones who have taken the course understand and accept the need to practice slow manuvers and low speed controll in tight quarters. the ones who just got on a bike and tryed to start riding, didnt get it, wouldnt practice and could never ride a bike worth a ****.

The course is a good BASE, but dont walk away from it thinking your a biker, you dont know **** yet.

Go get your M asap. dont be one of the guys who spends his time in an M2 just because... If your going to do something do it right, and riding a bike is where that saying applies the most. Learn to ride, Keep practicing and doing it right. get your licence, get it as soon as you can. Do a motorcycle right and you wont die on the road.

Good luck!
