Lowsided today

finally happened to me! I lowsided my bike today because I was braked too hard. I am okay since I had all my gears on but the bike is not L

The damage:

1) Rear brake lever is gone
2) Fairings are all scrated up… Front and side
3) Exhaust is scratched
4) Right signal is gone
5) Tank got a little dented from the handle bar

The bike seems to be running fine, but I just want to make sure that the alignment is not screwed up… how would I know?

I just want to know what I should be for mechanical wise after a crash

I am planning to take it to a mechanic as well… Do you guys know of any good ones? I have to drive back from Mississauga to Markham

Ps. Any SV riders need to get rid of some parts, please contact me. I checked on Kijiji already

Good to hear you are ok. Happens to the best of us. By the looks of the damage it appears your frame sliders caused the bike to rotate while sliding...

There aren't any flame sliders there.

As an SV owner I am sad to see your bike is such a shape but on the positive side, you seem to be ok and that damage shouldn't be much trouble to fix at all. :)
If the bike just lowsided and slid, there shouldn't be any alignment issues.
Get a new brake lever, signal and take off the full fairing (good luck with that bent bolt) and either have it repaired (sanded and painted) or throw on a new one which you can easily order online.
As for the upper fairing around your lights, you can probably sand that smooth again and get a color match paint to hide most of it and wait until you can find a used one to use as a replacement. They are over 300$ new.
My upper fairing is damaged a little from the previous owner and he did a quick patch job and paint match. From 5 feet away you can't even tell.
I am waiting until next season to decide whether I am keeping the bike or tracking it. If I keep it then I will call around bike scrap yards to see if I can get a used one.

I have a blue SV with the silver fairing (exact same silver as your bike).

There is a leftover chunk of frame slider in the 2nd pic.

I have the same thing on my bike, it's not a frame slider because it sits flush with the body work.

You can see it in this picture (this is my bike).

Glad you're ok!

Don't be sad, i've already crashed 3 times so far, and fixed my bike up even more. I don't want to say this, but crashing is actually good if you've never crashed before, it builds your confidense for example..next time round taking a turn and realising what you did wrong or could have done right. Obviously, staying safe from serious accidents and riding safe.

The damage you describe is a typical 30 to 60km lowside to the right.

Alignment is not hard to fix either, if you have a centre bike stand stool, place it on that, and buy lazer guider from Canadian Tire or a Tool Shop. You can even use bright coloured thread. place them on the sides of the front and back tires etc, and see the damaged offset, and adjust the wheels the forks and rear sub frame. Tie the bike down and buy some strong ropes, onece measured up the offset, pull the frame attached to the ropes in either direction and adjust the forks and so on. If there is a front to back alignment issue when you ride you will feel either the front tire trying to move to the right and the rear straight or to the left, and visa versa, the feeling is like the tires are slipping over street car tracks. If not you're fine, may just need cosmetic work. Oh and also check your handle bar clip ons, even a slight angle offset can make the bike feelike its completely out of alignment. and good luck, **** happens you'll be back in a good mood in a few days and eager to get her fixed and riding again :)

Make sure the bike is mechanically sound and you should be good, as for the fairings...um this is why i ride a completely naked bike.

Sounds like it was a relatively low speed low damage deal. The only "alignment" you have to possibly worry about is the handlebars being bent and forks being slightly tweaked inside the triples, although I doubt it. If it looks straight while sitting on the bike and holding the bars (they're equal length away from the tank and not cocked to one side) then you're fine. Don't worry about it.

Sorry to hear about the lowside. Glad to hear you are safe. +1 to rich6969's comment
My $0.02:
1) Rear brake lever is gone ($20 on kijiji, or this forum)
2) Fairings are all scrated up… Front and side (SV's look sexy without the lower fairings anyways. If you don't have the money (or time) now, remove them and ride naked for a bit. Upper just needs a little love and touch-up for now)

3) Exhaust is scratched (a good metal polish takes out the darker spots in the damaged areas...replacement can wait)
4) Right signal is gone (good time to find a nice pair of flush-mounts)
5) Tank got a little dented from the handle bar (unfortunate, but just make sure the clip-ons are straight from impact)

Repairing is learning....good luck!

Looks a lot like my low side.

Might want to take apart the upper fairing. Could have a bent support frame, damaged plastics internally, stuff that you would only see by disassembling.

How's your knee?

So glad to hear you are not hurt. Now your friends know what to get you on your birthday. $$$

Damn. That is a little disconcerting. I nearly low-sided early this morning on a turn, and my bike looks identical! In my case though, I'm certain it was oil on the east bound 401 on-ramp at Dixie/Martin Grove. I wasn't taking the turn particularly aggressively and noticed the front tire slip slightly. I realized "oh sh~t, that's oil!" (not well lit) and a moment later, it really started to get away from me. I nearly went down, but just barely managed to gain control again.

I'm sorry you weren't so lucky, Joz. Good luck fixing up your bike.

HAHA..thanks guys.. I got some flush mounts today for $30... don't know how I can fix the front fairing still... and I have to find some new lower fairings for sure..

It was a good experience.. just glad that I am alive haha

Rode all the way back from sauga to markham; meaning everything is fine mechanically with the bike :)

Glad you're okay. Were you wearing protective pants as well?

Krashaski has been down a lot of times, in really stupid situations. Krashasaki has learned quite a lot, looks pretty bad, but runs great!

Krashasaki isn't sure why you need new fairings. Krashasaki's fairings look worse than yours. Krashasaki just posted some advice in another thread about fairings. Here's the link: http://www.gtamotorcycle.com/vbforum/showthread.php?140784-Fairings&p=1575660&viewfull=1#post1575660

It's for the 250R, but it should be equally relevant for your bike.
