GRIMSBY Niagara police have identified the motorcyclist killed in a head on collision while riding home from Friday 13th festivities in Port Dover.
Geoffrey Yellow, 55, a volunteer firefighter with the Grimsby Fire Department, died at the scene after his Harley-Davidson collided head on with an oncoming car on Regional Road 20 near Grimsby Road, West Lincoln, about 5:30 p.m.
Police said Yellow was heading eastbound when he collided with the westbound car.
The 44-year-old man from Dunnville driving the car. whose name has not been released suffered minor injuries and was taken to West Lincoln Memorial Hospital.
Ironically, firefighters dispatched to the crash were some of Yellow’s friends from his own West Lincoln
As well as firefighting, Yellow was employed as director of environmental services at West Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Grimsby, was a director on the board of the Fergie Jenkins Foundation, and a member of Grimsby’s branch of the Royal Canadian Legion.
Predeceased by his wife, Nancy, who died of cancer eigth years ago, Yellow is survived by two adult children.
Visitation will be held Tuesday at the Stonehouse-Whitcombe Funeral Home in Grimsby from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will take place Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Trinity United Church, 100 Main Street West, Grimsby.
Niagara police, who say there may have been involving this particular car prior to the collision are asking anyone with information about the collision to contact the collision reconstruction unit at 905-688-4111, extension 5500.
