Looking for somewhere my son can take lessons

Hi Y'all, first of all, thanks in advance for any help or guidance you might give me. Also, if this has been posted somewhere else I apologize. My 18 year old son has never been on a bike (and doesn't drive a car yet either) but wants to look at riding. I want him to get a good, professional education, because I'm very concerned about him learning safety like any parent. I have been riding for just over 20 years, but I am not a teacher. Also, where can I rent a bike when he gets his M1 so I can go somewhere with him and supervise his practice?

Thanks again,

Just to clarify, can he ride a pedal bike? An instructer told me someone showed up for a beginers class for M/Cs and didn't know how to ride a push bike. Sounds like a responsible start on your part.

Reading my previous message, I now realize why you ask, I used the slang bike instead of motorcycle. Sorry 'bout that. Bike yes, motorcycle no. He also has good common sense, and a rudimentary knowledge of basic rules of the road. Thanks again.

Whats wrong with a riders training course??

He will get his M2 and alot of useful knowledge.

I had already been riding a month before I took RTI, but plenty of people in my class had never sat on a bike before that and came out with their M2. Very good instructors at the location I was at (downtown). One weeknight and a weekend and he'll know the basics

I'm young and had zero experience on a bike until recently. I went with RTI and was not disappointed. After 2 days of lessons and some seriously awesome fun on several different bikes, I completed the course with my M2 as the cherry on top of an already great weekend! Bonus is that you're allowed to watch while he learns and if you ask the instructors (who were great IMO) they might even let you ride along too... but safety comes first with them (which is also good for your son).

I would totally recommend going with a course, if he doesn't yet know the rules of the road and you want to instill some good safety knowledge.

^^^^ Going to do the full-day off-road course early August! W00t! I'd say go do this course together with him. If he likes riding, then let get M1 and do M1-exit course at one of the accredited facilities, whichever one is closer to you - Humber, RTI, Centennial, Sheridan, Learning Curves, etc.

Nothing at all wrong, this is one of the things I was looking for, advice on courses, maybe recommendations and where they are etc. I'm very grateful for all of the replies too, now I have some options to consider.

Thanks!

Thanks Tricky. In 1992 when I got my first bike, I had never been on one. And I took the Humber College course right away, and found there were people with similar levels of inexperience.

Sweetpea, I think this is exactly where we're going to start, thanks a lot. Happy and safe riding to you.
