Looking for some suggestions

On purchasing a sport motorcycle, I currently own a H-D Iron Sportster which I just adore and plan on keeping forever but I'd love to expand my collection to sport motorcycles as well. I am a huge fan of anything American or European due to styling, engineering, and all out performance and fun factor. I enjoy the fact that some of the bikes are a little more unique in their own respects. This would be my first true sport-motorcycle and In particular I had my eye on two bikes which seem to be both somewhat unique and unusual in their own rights. The first being: Ducati 749 L-twin and the second being the: Triumph Daytona 675 Triple. I read alot of reviews, I sat on them (haven't had a chance to ride both), Ive spoken to owners of both bikes, read forums with respect to the motorcycles reliability, service, potential issues etc. Yet, I can't make up my mind on which would be one of the two which I'd purchase in the very near future. Keep in mind, I've never owned a sport-motorcycle however, i do have over 8 years of riding experience with high powered 2-stroke enduros and 4-stroke thumpers and on road experience with my current motorcycle. I'm wondering what would be the right fit for me as a first Sport Moto?

Thank-You

Leo R.

worse looking, lighter, souless inline motor, cheaper parts/maintenance, no fantastic dry clutch rattle.
Fixed
Seriously get the Duc and you will never look back, but I would be looking for a 09 or later 848 if you want to ride it alot. The 749 is a fantastic looking piece of art but not as maintence friendly as the 848 but still a great bike.

The Ducati 749 is beautiful in appearance and performance, reliability and maintenance is a bit questionable at times. overall it's the Ferrari of motorcycles. The Triumph on the other hand has a very unusual inline triple with nice styling, Great performance and great reliability/practicality. The only thing I've noticed about the Daytona is the seating height, was a bit too high for me im 5'-10" and I was having a bit of a hard time with it not difficult but not easy. on the other hand the ducati felt very natural in its seating position, and I felt comfortable yet sporty. The Triumph was very aggressive seating position. I still like both and I'm trying to find the deciding factor for both.

as for the 848 its very beautiful! and I was considering that as well.

Well, I went ahead and got an older Buell tuber but, since you asked about a Duc and Trumpet, I have a soft spot for British Iron. You have the sound and feel of a V Twin already. Ducs have their own lovely sound and feel too. But, if I was looking for a change from the Sporty, I'd look at the triple.

I don't think you can lose with either one though.

That's true, I agree I already have the Twin with the sporty I guess it's settled. Triumph it is! Now which year to get is the question!.

They updated it in 2009 with new suspension, front fairing, brakes, etc. Pretty much the same bike but slightly improved in every area.

Are there any performance parts for these motorcycles that can significantly give the bike some more pep?

In 2011 they went with a new style of logo. Looks gawdawful next to the classic Triumph logo. Something to keep in mind.

For more pep it's like any other sport bike, you can give it a full exhaust and tune, or open it up and put different cams in depending if your meaning of 'pep' is more torque or more power.

Looking for a bit of both.. first I need to get the bike ;) then we'll go from there. I Just love European sport bikes.
