This summer I'll be going on a retirement tour of the USA. I'm a photographer and will be carrying some film cameras to document what I see and experience. I'll be taking along my iPhone and ipad for digital pics and posting from the road.

my question is: I'm almost at the memory capacity of my phone and ipad. How do I save the pictures I've already taken, and remove the files to make room for more?

Plug the phone into your computer.

Click "open folder to view files"
From there, there is only a single file path. Cut and paste onto your computer.

All photos will be off your phone and on your computer.

Although id suggest taking a small digital camera with a large memory card. Once your phone fills up the the camera is useless if you can't remove the pics while on the road. With an actual camera you can just swap cards.

If you can get a steady internet connection, I would install the Google Drive App, and upload your stuff to there... or a similar service, if you prefer. (You would have to remove it from your device afterwards, of course.) What could be worse than losing it all from a mishap/theft near the end of the trip?

Also recommend this. If you're with WIND you can get unlimited US data roaming for only $15/mo now which makes this a viable option.

Oh yeah, good point.. Makes it worth getting a Wind phone over, even if not. Tether the iPad to it. This is a retirement tour, right!?

Actually, OP.. if your iPad has the Cellular data connection, and can take a Sim card, you could even get one in the USA for pretty cheap and be connected all the time.

Thanks for your replies.

yes, this is the retirement tour.

I'll be getting Roam mobility.

Look into something called Dropbox, it's an app you install and it saves pics, videos etc etc.

Easy on ROAM - I was disappointed - coverage out west sucked.

I'll have to look but there is a better package out there.

I'd appreciate any info. Thanks!

I just started doing a little searching for you... check this thing out:

http://www.t-mobile.com/internet-devices/samsung-lte-mobile-hotspot-pro.html

Now, I am not sure what you can do in terms of providers and plans... but that thing would basically allow you to Wifi connect to it with all of your devices simultaneously. As long as you can get a decent unlimited data plan, then you are set.

How long is your trip going to be for??

Edit: Looking quite a bit and I am only finding like 12GB for $80/mo and stuff like that... :/

Thanks sweet onion,

My trip is for 4-5 weeks.

Ive got all my digi photos loaded in Dropbox now. I'll load iTunes on a netbook and download them there too. Then I'll disconnect my phone and ipad from Dropbox and delete all the pic files in the phone and ipad. They are synced via iCloud, which is cool because pics I take with the iPhone show up on my ipad. I can do some editing and post processing with the ipad.

i can live with wifi connections along the way only, if the roam mobility cellular connectivity is not great.

sounds complicated

Android - plug phone into pc or tablet- instant usb drive
option 2 - swap memory cards
option 3 - connect usb hard drive to phone or tablet
option 4 - wifi connection between phone - tablet- laptop autosynch or manually move files without a cable (airdroid is cool)
