Looking for a new desktop, halp!

Noob checking in. My old one is obsolete. I need it to be able to handle my 1000 tabs open and the occasional video editing. I also need upgraded ports (usb 3.0, hdmi output) with a budget of $500-$600.

How are the AMD processors? any good vs Intel?

I'm looking at this one..

but hesitant on the AMD processor. At a budget of $500-600, the only intel I can find is the i3, which sucks for video editing.

Stay away from HP. AMD is fine.

Yeah I just asked buddy who worked at Staples and he said HP are the most frequently repaired and returned.

damn, not bad. But it says you have to pay extra for the OS on the Wintronics computers.

lol nice same thing with faster processor.

Yeah but you could borrow an OS disc or download better OS off the internet and have multiple and choose during boot up like Ubuntu and Linux.

Building your own is fine if you need a specialized system such as for gaming with specific specs.

Bang for the buck, an off the shelf is better IMHO. (Yes, last year, I did the home made thing for my office, and just bought a shiny new Dell for my home) The Dell wins hands down, and I paid slightly more for it, but its waaaay more computer.

Quite honestly though, you won't go wrong either way.

was debating the whole dedicated graphics card thing but does it make that much of a difference when editing videos? When I say edit videos.. I mean editing Gopro riding videos in MovieMaker lol, nothing hardcore or day-to-day editing. No CAD or 3d rendering.
 
IMO building your own is a hassel. But alot of people I talk to say its the way to go.

With regards to hp. Id stay away. If you check the processes open through task manager, hp runs way more than any other company and slows down the processor.

I would stay away feom AMD aswell. The good one are better for gaming (apperently) but i7 and even i5 are wayy better.

Ive had an hp running amd and bought an acer from future shop with an i5 for like $700 and I find it waaaay better.

Building your own computer is only the way to go if you know you're going to be using your computer for constantly evolving technology like high graphics games packed with coding, a lot of the purpose built computers like the one I have wont be obsolete for a long time and is definitely not necessary unless you plan to run your system for long periods of time that are heavy on CPU usage. I have a purpose built gaming desktop that was built to play TERA but quit the game a few months after starting and barely even use the computer now. Laptop more convenient, don't use it for gaming except like armorgames.com basic crap because its portable and connects to TV.

Yeah I guess everyone has their thing. I personally hate laptops. I had a vaio with autocad and solidworks on it and it was extremely slow. I find in general that laptops arnt as fast as desktops. I just use my desktop for day to day and prefer it over a laptop.

I have some friends that go way to far. Liquid cooling, $200 graphics cards.. way over my head

Is it a better processor though? I'm reading the AMD A10 6700's performance is the equivalent of a 3rd gen i3. But it does have 12gb of ram..
So it's either:

i5 4440 with 6gb ram
or
A10 6700 with 12gb of ram

Basically the AMD is a quad core which allows for more things to be processed simultaneously like what you mentioned with videos and editing and all that jazz whereas the Intel can do less processes at once but more fluidly. The drawback is that the AMD heats up and can burn out after long hours of use vs the Intel which draws less power so it heats up less.

Well it depends on what equipment its running but yeah wireless mouse (and keyboard if you don't like thin keys) but the Liquid cooling is great but not necessary unless you are running your CPU high usage. They have Dell gaming computers called Alienware that they charge a ridiculous price of 100% markup for something you can have custom built better.

I used to build my own as then I got exactly what I wanted and upgrading or replacing parts was easy and never would I run into a proprietary issue. That said, I have run laptops for years now.

As far as the processes in the background; all name brand computers run all sorts of stuff (garbage) in the background and it all drags the performance down. It's an easy fix though; obtain and install an OS over a formatted drive as soon as you get it in your house... miles better.
