Looking for a new battery

Think I need to pick up a new battery. Mine's to the point now where if I haven't had it on the battery tender in 2 full days, it won't start. It's been pretty bad ever since I bought the bike, but it's getting way worse and its getting annoying.

Through the GS500 wiki (http://cgi.stanford.edu/~sanjayd/gs500/Main/Battery) I found the battery I'm looking for at FSMotorcycle (http://www.fsmotorcycle.com/yuasa-yb10l-b2-battery.html). Price isn't bad, so I'll probably pull the trigger soon.

Anything else you guys would recommend looking at? Anything that will beat that price (for comparable quality).

Willing to sell you my 8 cell ballistic battery, was going to sell it to my buddy but his Harley takes a 16 cell. your bike on http://www.ballisticparts.com/ says 4 cell but then says upgrade to 8 cell for cold weather. Will to sell you minus taxes. Only reason want to sell it 2cm to tall for my battery tray. If it fits in your bike, will sell it to you. If not I'll just keep it but have to fab a new battery tray over the winter.

Price would be 135.

battery was used for 2 track days and 1 start-up in my buddy’s Harley Davidson.

Thanks but I'll pass. Spent a lot of time yesterday researching Lithium batteries and I'm not sure I'm ready to make the switch.

- Price
- Reviews (for Ballistic at least) seem mixed
- Possible problems using it with the battery tender I already have
- Possible problems using it with my bike's regulator

Never ever heard of one having a problem with a battery tender.

Their first batch of batteries were terrible, but anything in the last year or more has been rock solid.

Haven't seen any 2003+ bike have a regular issue with these.

You might also check prices at saskbattery.com. Mail order but great prices and fast delivery.

Unless you need the weight reduction, I'd personally stick with lead acid as they can take more abuse (my OEM YUASA lasted 8 years). They also perform better in the cold (<10 Celsius, read less likely to get stranded if you're a commuter) and are good with being stored at full charge over winter, whereas lithium batteries (under anal conditions) prefer being stored at 40-80% capacity if its for more than 3 months (varies with the technology).

I wouldn't go to the extreme of buying an Odyssey virgin lead acid but you already know how long your stock battery has lasted so I'd feel confident knowing I can get that out of a newer one again.

LiFePO4 batteries (Ballistic) can be topped up to 14.4V, lead acid can be topped up to 13V(Gel), 13.4V (Flooded) or 13.6V (AGM) which means there isn't a battery tender out there that designed for lead acids will damage your Ballistic; and as such your regulator will handle it without issue.
