Ladies and gentlemen of GTAM,
I'm co-hosting an event that promotes and supports women in our community as well as the women of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
Many of these women belong to an organization called Zimele (www.zimelecommunity.ca), which means ‘to stand on your own two feet’ in Zulu. The name captures the very spirit of what the organization is about and what makes it unique. Zimele is about providing a ‘hand up’ not a ‘handout’ so that the people of South Africa can ‘stand on their own two feet’. What we're doing is helping build that up even more, help these women sell their wares, while supporting our own women and promoting them.
We have invited women vendors from all over Toronto to come and share their gifts and talents. We have jewellery makers, artists, singer/songwriters, clothing makers, and more! But we still need more entertainers and vendors. So I'm calling out to the ladies of GTAM, and the men of GTAM who know talented ladies. Do you sing, dance, knit, sew, cook, paint, sculpt, etc? We'd like you to participate!
And if you don't know any (lies!), come out to our event!
August 20th, 2011, 11AM-5PM
63 Dunblaine Ave, Toronto (off Avenue, south of Wilson)
A portion of sales will go towards helping South African women be empowered.
Please PM me if you can participate! Thank you!
