while putting my breaks back on. i pulled the brake lever and locked my left caliper. not bot but one piston is down. so what should i do?

i am trying to take the brake line off but i cannot hold the caliper steady to turn the bolt.

if i bleed the right side caliper will it relief the pressure from the left locked side to?

You have to pry the pistons apart. Where the fluid goes is not really important. You can open the bleeder and it will push back the easiest. If you just pry it will go out the master. If the pistons are out of the bores, you're taking the caliper apart and rebuilding it.

thats what it looks like

i took the brake pads off and am going to push back with a c clamp. well gonna try
Clean the pistons gently and thoroughly before you push them back in.The dirt will only make life worse for you.

I'm a little curious why one piston is not out..it's possible it's seized.

One is dirtier/stiffer than the other. Because there was no resistance (no rotor), which ever piston was easiest for it to push out, it did. Both pistons have to be perfectly clean for it to push both out equally, without any resistance from the pad side.

That's a test I do every time I change brake pads. If the pistons don't come out perfectly evenly I clean the pistons and check again. Keep doing that till they come out at the same rate.

Yeah, could very well be. OP, make sure that piston goes back in with more or less the same force as the other one. Just in case. The pads look to be pretty evenly worn so probably no problem.

okay here is the update.

i bled the brakes from the relief valve as you guys recommended

i removed the pads

i cleaned the one piston with brake cleaner very nicely.

the one that did not push out i couldnt clean.

i used a piece of wood and a c clamp and pushed back in. went all the way without much resistance.

i did however notice the seals are in awful shape.

this is an 83 cb1000c that i picked up and working on.

i am thinking maybe i should clean the calipers , just rebuild it and out new seals.

what is the proper way to do this. after i take the pads out what should be my next step?

If you have an air blower, put a piece of wood in the caliper so the piston doesn't pop out and blow air inside the caliper, with a low PSI (40 MAX) the piston that doesn't move should go out. And don't stick your finger there.
