What are your strong opinions about these marvels? Do you have a favourite brand? Where would you source it? It's supposed to be above zero this week.

I've had mine for 3 seasons now, I've had no issues and I am quite impressed with the performance of mine,

e.g. 1. I left mine on my bike in unheated storage last winter, in spring 10 mins on the trickle charger and it was ready to fire the bike.

e.g. 2. I removed both batteries from my bikes this year in November (one lead acid) and I hadn't ridden the lit. iron batteried bike since Sept. So when they were removed the lead acid battery was fully charged and the lit. iron battery hadn't been charged on the bike since Sept. I go to put both batteries on the trickle charger a month ago to top up the charge, lead acid took about 5 hours @ 2amp and the lit. iron took about 5 mins. So defenitely holds a charge better.

e.g. 3. if you have to crank over your bike for longer than normal for whatever reason, the lit. iron batteries get stonger as they warm up instead of losing power. The manual tells you to put some drain on the battery before cranking if it's been sitting for a while by turning on the high beam, this "warms up" the battery. It works.

The only brand I've tried is Shorai and I sourced mine at flying squirrel motorcycles Glen's a friendly, knowledgable guy.

Above zero is music to my ears.

I run the same battery sourced from the same place as you, for the same 3 years.

Experience is exactly like yours. In the cold weather I have to turn it over quite a few times to "warm up the battery", opposite of what you'd do with a regular battery. It's never ever failed to start the bike, including one time when it was -26c and my car wouldn't start and I had to make it to a super important meeting at work.

I've killed it right flat a few times (once when my radiator cap failed at the track and it was blowing all my coolant out the overflow valve) and boosted it with my 200 amp booster then headed right back out on the track, no damage to the battery, still works like new.

Love love love them, specifically Shorai from Flying Squirrel or Alien Motion from Pro 6, don't trust ballistic anymore since I went through three of them in three months before getting the Shorai.

For the sake of clarity, I think you're talking about Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4). The alternative is Lithium Ion Polymer (LiPo).
I got confused myself because I thought they were called "Lithium Iron Polymer" so I had to look it up and I'm sure the two types have quite different characteristics.

Oh yeah and I had a Ballistic battery and wasn't happy with it, it never came alive below 5 degrees no matter what I did.

I will look into that after dinner. Whether phosphate or polymer, I need small and light. I'll go with whatever is the latest rage. Also need to investigate building new battery cables. I don't think I'll start a thread on that.

I've had my 8-cell Ballistic from Pro6 for 3 years. I take it indoors for the winter.....never had it on a charger.....always has enough charge left come spring. Happy.
