Might get roasted for this.
A bit of background, I've had my BMW S1000RR for about 9 years now, love the bike probably will never sell it, a blast to ride.

Recently thought about picking up a second bike, something much slower, more laid back to just putt around on, I really like this Chinese bike called the Lifan KPM 200, lots of raving reviews about it online. I called up a Canadian distributor (Venom Motorsports) and it turns out they are not allowed to sell them in Canada, which I thought was strange.

My question is has anyone successfully purchased, registered and insured one of these things in the GTA?
Roast away, but some insight if anyone has done something like this would be appreciated.

Likely won't pass federal MOT standards (lights, reflectors, bilingual labels, emissions, etc.) and the manufacturer/importer can't be bothered going through the hassle of getting it approved.
If Service Ontario runs the VIN it will go tilt, unless you could find a way to register it as a home built - which I doubt.

Much better choice - will be gone in a heartbeat tho.

The CB300R would be a Honda better fit for their preferred style. More money but in the grand scheme of what they have invested in vehicles just a drop. I think the RE is closer to the lifan. CFMoto might also have something that could interest them (although it looks like to get styling that they are interested in, you may need a bigger engine).

Most supersport riders find the perfect balance in owning two bikes in a supermoto. SaltTheWound YouTube channel just picked up the new KLX 300 SM which is basically the long awaited DRZ 400 upgrade that people wanted from Suzuki that is never going to happen as it looks like they're getting out of motorcycles. I have the Husqvarna 701 SM as a second bike and find it gives me more options with less responsibility. There's a sense of responsibility when riding a liter bike as you would know. As well, you're always looking over your shoulder as your targeted by police. Police don't look at supermoto's on the street and if they do it's out of curiosity. It's nice to be off their radar. You can go places you wouldn't get to go on your S1000RR. KLX 300 on the cheap, or Husqvarna 701 SM / KTM 690 SMCR (same bikes) on the expensive. My $0.02 You won't regret it.

In Ontario CCs count and in addition to being more expensive initially, insurance will be higher for the second bike. 250 insures cheap.
Money no object? then yeah the RE 500 or 350 but getting into $$.....

Someone else on the board bought a Burgman 400 for a commute. Perfect "putt around" with lockable storage and easily does highway speeds....antipodes from your current ride but pretty quick off the line in traffic and reasonable fuel mileage.
