Lets Discuss SPYDER

hi guys, i am a new comer to this site. Hello to everyone. I am in for search of a suitable bike. Wife does not want me to think about bikes. I have convinced her of looking into Spyder as being the safest means,,,,i mean at least apparently its safer than a two wheeler. Wanted the input of riders who own or have experience with three wheeler.;)

A Can-Am Spyder.

1. Rides like a car but without the protection of a car. No cage, no wind protection, it's wide, you're exposed to the elements.

2. Takes the fun out of the motorcycle aspect. It can't lean, it can't maneuver, it's huge, no free parking downtown, etc.

Uhm.. what are the positives? Yea.. good question!

sure, u are right...but look at the other aspects,,,its something new,,,something that is a head turner...
by the way what does it mean when someone says my bike is a stock?

I'd rather drive a convertible than a 3 wheeler. As mentioned above, the leaning with the bike in turns is 1/2 the fun, the spyder is trying to eject you in turns. Tire tracks - you are hitting 3 different spots on the pavement, and it's not as wide as a car, that sounds like a pain. It would be easier to maneuver in low speed compared to a bike for sure, but not once a bike is moving, it's very stable.

Something new isn't always better.. have you seen the UNO?

A head turner? For sure!

Id rather buy a G2 or a Trex than a Spyder. I took one for a drive and they are bulky, handles like crap and has zero power.

You get free parking in Toronto with any "Motorcycle" and Ontario defines a motorcycle:

MOTORCYCLE – A self-propelled vehicle having a seat or saddle for the use of the driver and designed to travel on not more than three wheels in contact with the ground, and includes a motor-scooter, but does not include a motor assisted bicycle.

"the requirement to pay or deposit a fee or rate and to use or set in operation the parking meter or to use or activate the parking machine shall not apply to a person parking a motorcycle.”

the only difference is that the Spyder is legal in Ontario and the G2 or Trex are not.

A spyder is safer than a bike when you are travelling 0 mph....since it won't tip over at a stoplight.
The rest of the time, it is LESS safe as far as I am concerned. It is larger, heavier, slower to turn or stop than a 2 wheeler. It also hogs up a great deal of real estate, leaving the rider less options for evasive manouvering if an emergency should occur.

The Spyder does have ABS and traction control however, and those otems combined witht he active stability management are apparently very involved at keeping the Spyder from skidding or spinning the tire, etc.

It is my opnion that the SPyder appeals mostly to those people who have always wanted to ride, but are afraid to try. People who have never ridden a motorcycle, but want to feel like a badass biker, when all they have really ever driven is their Honda Accord. Biggest problem with that is the $20K price tag to "test" the waters to see if you like riding or not, is pretty steep.

It has a reverse gear (by necessity) which is always nice to have.
