I have 2 questions:

1) What is the legal age to buy a motorcycle

2) Can you register a motorcycle without insurance, IF, you are not platting the vehicle and just storing it?

Reason being, I want to buy myself a motorcycle now (i have an offer) and I am looking to store it until I get my m2 and G completed for cheaper insurance. If anyone knows please reply I have tried calling 10 different service ontario centres and they don't pick up the phone.

1) 1 day old. If the seller insists on a contract then you'll need someone age of majority (18+) to co-sign.
2) Yes, but why bother? Just store it.

It is rare to get a good enough deal that storing the bike for very long is worth while. How long are you thinking of storing it? It is almost impossible to get fire and theft insurance on a bike without liability so make sure you put it in a concrete bunker somewhere.

Unless the bike is at a price that it will be at the time you have your M2 and G don't bother buying it. A bike depreciating while riding is bad enough, a bike depreciating while in storage is foolish. If someone is selling a bike that cheap there is likely something very wrong with it.

No minimum age to own a vehicle.

Yes, change the ownership into your name as "Unfit" and you won't need insurance.

A deal is a deal, if the price is good, why not?

Id swear there is a minimum, I always get asked for my drivers lisc when registering.

My friend has fire & theft without liability on his stored bike, with State Farm. But he also has active insurance for his car with SF, so I dunno. YMMV.

Hi, thanks for the reply!
1) Contract meaning bill of sale? (I will be signing the ownership into my name is that a contract?)

2) Isn't there a law where you must register the bike 7 days after sale? I don't want the ministry to not let me register it in the future.

So if I walked into service ontario to register the bike in my name, I do not need insurance so long I am not getting it plated?

Buy the bike. That's it.

As for registration, you can register it under your name and not plate it. No insurance needed, but you must tow it to your mechanic to get it for for the road and grab your safety.

What bike is it, and call around for insurance quotes, even if they are hypothetical.

If I get the safety is that enough? Do I also need emissions?

The bike will not be availiable for insurance at my age, unless I find a brooker, which I am currently searching for.

What exactly do I need when I go to register the vehicle? So far I have :

License
UVIP
Ownership/Title
Safety
Money

Don't buy the bike before locking in a quote with insurance. You will be disappointed guaranteed if you follow your current plan. Also, I'm not one to say that you shouldn't start out on a bigger bike so instead I'll just tell you now that no company is going to insure you on that bike for anything approaching a reasonable price. My advice for getting you on the road is to size wayyy down and look outside the sport bike market. Good luck

The bike is going to sit for at least 7 years. I know it's cool to own a bike at 18, but sitting on it in the garage making vroom noises will get old quick.

My friend who is turning 30 this year and has 13 years riding experience had to sell his gorgeous 2000 ZX-9 because his insurance was too high.

Good Luck.

Bad record?

I know what you're saying, thanks for the advice though. I wouldn't be happy riding a 250cc though.

I guess thats when you have to put it in first and ride it on the road
