LED light for 250 ninja (UPDATE WITH PICS)

Sorry for the disappointing pictures, try to get better ones when it isn't raining anymore

Once again thanks a lot Jamie!!! I had a great time learning and learning new stuff from you. Any new mods i will definitely ask you!!!

So looking to make my ninja cooler to look at.

Here are mods that i am thinking of doing.

First something simple, LED light on the bike. From here http://www.kapscomoto.com/product_p/6x6-moto.htm

Other mods are changing the front lights and such but i was advised not to cuz it kills the battery.

Anyone know if its hard to install it and btw i have a 2009 ninja 250.

Thanks

Tie the LED kits into the license plate light wires, will only come on when the key is on, lots of spare power on that circuit. If they are an illegal colour put them on a switch so you can turn them off. If you want them to be on when the key is NOT on you could wire in a toggle switch like this one: http://www.princessauto.com/pal/product/8161721/Toggle/ON/OFF/ON-Toggle-Switch
Middle is off, one way is on constantly/when the key is off and the other way is on only when the bike is on ;)

What front lights? Your headlights? If you drop in a 35watt HID kit (your bike uses H7 bulbs) of your favourite colour it will actually use LESS power than your stock bulb! The higher you go over 4300k the less light will make it to the road, if you go pure blue 15,000k or purple 30,000k or green, avoid riding at night. I've had great luck with these $30 HID kits: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/110795350215

For other front lights like marker lights or turn signals you can get super insane LED ones in whichever colour you want.

What are the illegal colors ?
All of them ;)

Stick with white (for engine illumination, etc.) if you don't want trouble from the cops. Stick with amber for the turn signals, etc.

My ex had red LED turn signals (to replace the orange ones in the above pic), and red running lights in the headlight, yellow headlight bulb and red engine glow/under tail glow, etc. All illegal, never had an issue.

For headlights you could go with 4,300k (white) or 6000k (crystal white/very slightly blue) and not get trouble from the cops. If you go 3,000k (yellow) they might ticket you but they are fully legal when you go to court. 8,000k (pretty blue) and over are illegal, as is pink, purple, green, etc.

Not 100% true, but close.

Underglow is legal except if they are Intermittent (flashing) and as long as the red or blue is not casting light forwards.

As for HID's you will 99.9% of the time not get hassled or pulled over for them no matter the color in less you are riding like an idiot or an add on ticket if you being a dick when pulled over.

I used to think that was the case until durham's finest started handing out $110 "distraction to other driver" tickets. They said white or amber wasn't a "distraction", but any other colour, whether you can see the bulbs or not, reguardless of the direction they are shining, is a distraction. I took it to court for my friend, the judge asked "are ALL of the lights installed on the motorcycle OEM equivalent lights of the same brightness and colour?" ummm. No. "How many extra lights were installed on the motorcycle?" ummm lets see, 18 LED's per strip, 6 strips... "One hundred and eight your honour". Guilty :(

I asked a couple cops at an empty RIDE program and 2 said they were legal and 1 said they were illegal but couldn't say what the charge was.
I guess it comes down to officer discretion

Whatever he says he`s right..Ive learned not to question him on legal light colours haha

@toysareforboys

is it hard to put the led lights under the bike? and any place to do it for you if its to hard.

When i mean change the front light i mean change it to something like audi, halo light style.

Under the bike is not difficult, but on some bikes the bottom of the bike is WAY more open than you'd think!!!

If you ever rub em over a speed bump or whatever you can kiss em goodbye though.

Whoever told you those kinda lights would drain your battery or put a load on your electrical system was on crack. You could PILE on tons of led lights and it won't have any effect.

They make these cool LED audi style lights that are white normally, but when you signal blink amber!!! They are easy to squeeze into the gap between your headlight and the bodywork, and they are side firing, so they work perfect like that!

Mod away. If you need any help with the wiring, let me know. Remember to fuse everything, don't need your bike going up in flames.

Ok thanks,

I am planning to get these for the LED under the bike http://www.kapscomoto.com/product_p/6x6-moto.htm

and for the front lights not too sure, but will prob go with the audi lights. When you say fuse everything you mean even the LED under the bike?

I am a total noob even to the little stuff of mechanics.

I have underglow for my cage but only for the front. It illuminates the grill and asphalt underneath. Drove by numerous cops without a problem except once where the cop pulled me over for a little lecture and a warning. The lights are blue.

So it is under the discreation of an officer

I would recommend the flexible weatherproof sticky back LED strips, rather than those ones from kapscomoto. You can cut them to length, they are tiny, and bright as a mofo. Tool Tyme in Whitby sells them, as I'm sure so does pacific mall, etc. They are like these ones: http://www.superbrightleds.com/more...flexible-light-strip-reel-white-circuit/1194/

The LED's are totally enclosed in a perfectly clear rubber type material. Waterproof, protect the led's and electronics good, and you can cut them to length.

By fuse everything, I mean fuse everything. If you wire a switch up to the battery so you can have the light on when the bike is turned off, you would required an in-line fuse like this one to connect to the battery, so that everything connected after it is protected: http://www.princessauto.com/pal/product/8138257/Fuses-&-Breakers/25/30A-In-Line-ATO/ATC-Fuse-Holder

You would crimp a terminal ring to the end you are going to connect to the battery: http://www.princessauto.com/pal/pro...Kits/25-pc-12-10-Gauge-1/4-in.-Ring-Terminals (if you go to your local audio shop they'll usually give you one for free, you want a 1/4" one or 6mm in 12 gauge, they can also sell you good quality wire you can use to hook everything up if the included wires with the LED stripes, etc. are not long enough).

The those weatherproof LED strips seems like a good idea. Question is if i get this instead but how hard is it?

Would i need to remove anything on the bike? and is it plug and play sort of thing.

And for sure i want the LED strips to have a on and off switch.

I'm not sure what you mean by plug and play? None of that stuff is plug and play, you'll have to wire it up (like with the fuse and battery connector I showed ya, and I linked that funky toggle switch earlier too, it'll work sweet for controlling your lights).

Your bike is 12 volts, the LED strips are 12 volts, it's easy to wire up. Like I said you can tap off your license plate light wires (super easy, no fuse required, can still switch them on and off but they'll only light up when the key is on, not when the bike is off), or wire it to the battery as well (with the fuse and ring terminal) then you can have them on when the bike is off.

When you get all the ish installed and need help wiring it you can make a trip to my place and I'll wire it all in for ya for $10, you're welcome to watch/learn too.

I got mine from here http://www.motorcycleledlights.com/ (I got the single blue) and they are practically plug and play.
All the LED's have M/F connectors on them and plug directly into the control box and controled with a remote.
The only wiring you have to do is to the battery (Comes pre-fused).

To install them you will have to remove your fairings to be able to run the wiring and and find good hiding spots for them so they don't look like ****.

Wow, nice! They are really bright! It was hard to tell how bright they were during the day when we installed them! I like how they light up the ground so good and the one under the tail really lights up the tire and muffler! Now wash that ish already!! lol.

You didn't take a pic of the super awesome little switch we installed too!
