Late December Ride

If anyone is interested, and if the weather stays above zero(ish), I was hoping to get out for a ride up to Algonquin park either shortly before or after x-mas.
I've never been up for a ride to Algonquin so late in the year and figured this might be as good a year as any to snap a few pics.

As long as the roads are dry - I'll go. Heated gear, and or a good cold tolerance would be a must if anyone wants to join, because we can't be stopping every 30 minutes to warm up:mad:

I'm coming from Mississauga, so I think it would be an 8 hour day for me: 8am-4pm, maybe longer. No idea on the route yet, but the less hwy the better.

I'm not firm on the dates, but so far I think I'm free:
Dec 23, 28, 29, 30
Jan 2, 3

Post up if you are interested.
Happy Holidays!

I'm definitely interested, but I'm only free Jan 2 or 3 due to work. I've got lots of heated gear and cold tolerance. :)

I might join if that's cool, but it would probably be on my WR250x as I just sold my sport touring bike.

^^ that's fine as long as you don't mind longer rides on that bike. Probably highway up to Gravenhurst area and then backroads from here. Gas stops should be 150-200km apart.

We'll see how the forecast shapes up and then pick a date. I'm good to try and put this on the weekend, or do two rides: one before x-mas on the 23rd and another on Jan 2 or 3rd with routes to be sorted out later too.

Nice.
I was also thinking about starting and finishing at the Port Perry Timmies, but going in one side of Algonquin and out the other.
Something like: https://goo.gl/maps/ew9ZgGHwL3k - it's gonna be a long day for me no matter what, so whatever...
I'm going no matter what - just not quite sure which day yet.

Remember this is not summer weather/time, early start it is too cold too late in the afternoon cold again..so i'm not expecting a full day like summer hours..right?

I'm coming from Mississauga - so for me it will be longer over the course of the day. For others, maybe not so long.

I'm on a V-Strom 650. Pace will be dictated by the temperature and road conditions, but generally I like to ride responsible through small towns and along the straights and have a bit of fun in the corners. With the possibility of sand in the corners and the lower temps, this will be much more tame than a mid summer ride.

Looking at the weather forecast, it seems that I might be able to sneak away on the 24th, but I have to be home by 4:30pm latest to go for a dinner!
Leaving from Mississauga, and going through Algonquin Park, that means I have to leave home by 7:30 or so, just to make it home on time. Definitely not for everyone, but anyone is interested if you can tolerate it:)

You will want to hope for some pretty nice weather in the next few days then to make the ride. I was up in Minden and Haliburton (in van) yesterday. Around Minden there was 12in +/- of snow on unplowed roads and generally crappy driving from Coboconk northward. It's supposed to warm up I think up there and rain a bunch (my parents live up there) so the roads could be clear of snow. To put in perspective south of Kirkfield the road was clear and dry.

Funny..you have the same full name of a racer that use to race at the CSBK!

Ya, I know. One time McBride cycle tried to get me to pay one of his race parts bills rather than the (much smaller) amount I owed for some Suzuki Katana parts :) I use this username for other forums and forget people will think of a different Jeff Williams when it's a Canadian motorcycle forum. Jeff and I met (though he wont remember) one time when I helped pick up his bike at Shannonville when corner working a CSBK weekend ... thats how I get to talk to Michael Taylor for a bit as well.

Besides, I had the name first ;)

Jeff

Thanks Jeff for the heads up about the roads. I hope the rains over the next few days clean them good enough to enjoy a ride.

So December 24th it is for me - if anyone wants to join, you are more than welcome to.
Looks like temps will be around 15deg!!
I absolutely have to be home by 4:30, so I'm leaving Mississauga by 7am latest. I know it's early, but the weather will be nice and need to make the most of daylight for this ride.

Meet up at Innisfil Beach Rd & Hwy 400 (Shell/Timmie's) and riding out by 8am.
Lunch in Algonquin Park or nearby - I'm bringing a lunch and will find a scenic spot to eat.
Route: https://goo.gl/maps/HkuNRPt9zKE2

PM or post up if you are interested, otherwise I'll skip the meet spot and just head north.
Cheers!

Mee too! Every now and then I watch that Deals Gap video and it just makes me want to go back down again.

I am hoping for snow soon though because I am growing fat with no winter sports.
Come running with us - just around the corner from you.
We run out of a triathlon store on Royal Windsor Drive, between Southdown and Winston Churchill 3x a week. It's good times and no pressure or ego stuff. I'd be growing fat if not for that too:)

Thanks! Looks like I will meet a buddy in Bancroft and take a nice ride through the park. Enjoy your rides this week!
