I need a new[er] laptop , mostly I get along fine with the crud I have ,, really, how much processor does it take to read GTAM! ? lol
For the most part.. I surf pages like GTAM, Email, my taxes once a year.. not much else
But I have a gopro footage that I'd like to edit. and play on my monitor, or my 1080i HDTV

So i wonder if you could recommend what I need for software, and hardware,
for example,, would this machine be way tooo much for $400
HP ENVY 14.5" DR. Dre limited edition laptop. 1 yr old ..battery life is still close to 4 hours
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, intel core i5 cpu, 6Gb ram, 500Gb hard drive, USB ports, HDMI port, 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 5650 switchable graphics [HDMI] - For Dual Core Processors, 14.5 inch display.

I have 3 machines right now.
Tower ...Lenovo, windows vista business 2002 SP1 , intel P D 3.4ghz 1.7ghz Ram 4.0gb 32bit 160GbHD

also, IBM , Win XP pro V2002 SP3, intel P4 2.53ghz , ram 256k 40GbHD with 2gb free,, that I am presently using,

I have a laptop compaq Evo N610c, Win2000pro, Mobile Intel Pentium 4-M Processors 2 GHz. [broken 30gbHD] 256mb Ram,

I guess there is no sense looking for a HD for the laptop..
The Lenovo machine sounds like it will work,, but It needs a on off switch,, $150 ? !
I would rather have a laptop I think, so I can take the machine with me,, play the video on the monitor.. or have the ability to connect to the TV at the other persons place..

I would think that laptop would be sufficient, but its ugly as hell for one and for maybe 100$ more you can pickup something with a 2nd gen i5 or i7. check tigerdirect I think I saw some Asus's under $500 with better specs. Also you can add a SSD for increased performance.

Windows 8 is a lot smoother than 7, so far I've had no compatibility issues with software I've used on windows 7. If u want to stay around 400$ at least get a i3, that laptop in the source will feel slow.

I see I forgot to mention I use dial up most of the time... if I get a laptop. I can use wifi when travelling, and at coffee shops etc.. but I don't have access to high speed normally,,, so *I* think win 8 is trouble on dial up.... isn't it?

I think u would have to check if the laptop even has a jack for the phone line, I think most of the new ones don't. As long as the hardware support is there in the laptop itself I don't see why it wouldn't work.

You'll need to find a usb modem. I haven't seen a computer that could take a built in modem in years (yet alone have one built in). Heck, many laptops aren't bothering to include a network jack anymore.
