lane splitting in edmonton alberta.

I was running late for a meeting in Edmonton earlier, so I decided to lane split. 30-45 min after I recieved a phone call from the motorcycle rental, that police were looking to ticket/impound my $195/day ride. Some concerned citizen caught my plate number (wasn't going fast enough), and reported it to the police.

The police asked for my number, and the rental company obliged. They were not mad about what happened, given the circumstances of my reasoning, and having a good rental record.

I'm sure there are officers that have been notified to look out for my bike make/colour. Can police pull me over hypothetically tomorrow, or the next few days for what happened earlier.

Short answer: yes, if there is a witness with a description/plate number they could theoretically ticket you later on. Happens from time to time.

Sure they could. But was it the same rider as the one who was lane splitting?

Any traffic unit is probably alerted with a description of the bike while non traffic units aren't really looking out for you.

They could conceivably pull you over, but they don't have to. Since they likely have all of your information now, including your driver's license information, they can just ticket you based on the witness report and then let you work it out in court. I don't know the Alberta law involved, but in Ontario they could ticket you months later.

As with any of the comments made on this site.....particular of those who purport themselves to be experts....do your own due diligence.
