Yeah, I would put money on he did that on purpose... But you never know as we all know Cab drivers are the best drivers :D

I seriously doubt anybody would do that on purpose, especially a cabbie who depends on his car to make a living.

It really looks like the driver did it on purpose.
How many times do you see people getting out of their car on the 401 during rush hour to check the traffic up ahead?...
 
It might not have been on purpose because if you watch the Cabbies trunk it is open, Maybe he was going to grab something quick at the stop. I admit I have done it at a red light

As for people doing stuff like that on purpose. People have done worst things to prove a point about lane splitting so this is minor.

I absolutely agree with this. It obviously was not done on purpose. And, I've also popped my trunk while at a red light, whether to put something in or take something out of the trunk. No biggie.
