Lakehurst Road going into Buckhorn

Rode up this way today and about 6kms before Buckhorn the road turns into gravel. Encountered big gravel stones and to make matters worse most of it was wet so it was a semi-muddy gravel road. Lower half of bike was covered in mud by the time we reached Buckhorn. There was no warning and no indication that the road would go on for a few kms this way.
Avoid.

has this road always been this way? Whats the overall condition of it? Maybe there is intentions for new asphalt? I've never ridden this street before, and would like to know the status.

The road was fine a few weeks earlier when I took it. There will be new pavement no doubt as this is the main cottage road leading into Buckhorn. Not sure when it will be completed though so I'm staying away for a few weeks.

I plan to check it out this coming Sunday. Its potentially part of my route for an upcoming organized ride on the 29th of June. Was it just just shaved asphalt in preparation for new paving?

Rode it this morning. Fresh pavement all the way. Good route to Buckhorn!
