kx build

Ok some of you may know that I just got a new kx250f. people whoknow me know I don't keep anything stock. These are the mods I have done and some I need help with.

I have installed works connection rad braces and hour meter. also a full wrap around skid plate. which protects the cases. I have also gotten some billet parts nothing big just brake res caps. I also have gas tank foam (antislosh foam) to install.

What I would like to do is

Proper air filter, these bikes are always in the dust so I want something better then stock.
Hand guards/ bark busters Im looking at these http://store.cycraracing.com/ceremo.html
Over flow bottle, Might just make my own out of alloy unless someone can show me where to get a nice one from.
cv4 rad cap has a higher boiling temp.
Shave my seat down.
Akro full exhust
Renthal chain and sprockets
I was also thing of going a size bigger in tires front and back. Ya thoughts???

Any feed back as to what parts work or dont would be great. Or if you might have a better alternet. I'll try and post some pics of the build as parts come in.

I wouldn't change the tires from stock size, especially since you plan to shave the seat presumably to be able to touch the ground easier.

Also, you forgot fork and shock springs on your list ;)

FYI, I got Renthal sprockets and a DID chain (not in a kit, chose my own tooth count) from Royal Distributing for as cheap as I could find any kit online.

Your right about suspension, as for the tires I was thinking a bigger foot print

Yeah, that's true, but it does raise the bike quite a bit. My friend increased the size of just the rear on his RM-Z250 and it raised the bike so much he doesn't feel comfortable with it at low speeds. For MX riding it's probably great, but for trail riding maybe not so much. I will hook up better, but it's also heavier which will hurt acceleration a bit. I would suggest to ride this season on the OEM tires and try a bigger set next time so you have a frame of reference. There is also a big difference in tire height/profile between manufacturers. Dunlops seem to be quite big, and Michelins are quite small, in the same tire size.

What are you planning on using the bike for?

I've always used TwinAir filters. I buy a few of them, and change them after every day of riding in the dirt. I have 4, so when all 4 are dirty I toss them in the washing machine with this no toil foam filter cleaner powder that I've found... They come out perfectly clean and you didn't spend an hour doing it manually. I've not once had an instance of dirt getting past a TwinAir and there is a noticeable difference between that and a stock filter.
Look in to the loud mouth intake system. I've heard lots of good things about it, and might go with it eventually, but my spring bike budget has already been spent.

For a pipe, I'm running an FMF mega bomb header and the 4.1 can. The only reason why I have an aftermarket exhaust is because I crushed my stock exhaust last season... But there was an increase in performance with the FMF, and it's no louder than stock, but it is a different sound.

I would do suspension first. You won't believe the difference it has in an off road bike. If I had $1000 to spend on an MX bike, it would go in to the suspension. No jokes. That said, ride it stock for a bit so you can get a baseline, and then get some good springs/valves thrown in that sucker and you'll see what I mean. Don't forget to set static and race sag, as that makes a difference. I enjoy playing around with my suspension and seeing what it does, but I'm far from being an expert. It takes a while to develop a feel for what it's doing.

I'm also running Renthal sprockets and a D.I.D. chain and will be switching up my gearing a bit, but only changing that after a few rides with my new motor so I can feel the difference in the new engine (made a few "small" changes). I have a supersprox sprocket on the FZ6 and might be going that route with the MX bike this year as well.

Shaving the seat is a good idea if you're shorter. I'm 5'7" and want to do it simply so I have more distance between the seat and my glutes when I'm standing on the pegs. I get little "love taps" on the cajones from my seat every once in a while lol. I could care less about how easily I can flat foot a bike, as long as I can get one foot down I'm happy. If you shave it right, you can use the cut off foam to form a "seat bump" which serves several purposes.

I love ASV levers. I never had one bend. I have Sunlines on my current bike and the clutch lever bent a little in the first fall with it (bike was leaning against a wall and fell over).

Tires... Can't help you there as everyone seems to like different things and different applications require different needs.

Off topic, and it's not a 250.My buddy in London built this.Just saw the tread title and had to share a pic i took of his lightweight track tool.

The loud mouth system looks good.. As for exhaust I'm a Akro fan, so when I do a system that's what I'm going with. Suspension ill long some hours on it stock then see. As for asv lever I like them just hard to find them for the rright price and getting them shipped on time seems to be the big problem. Tony from blue streak was saying he doesn't carry them any more bc he was waiting 9 months to get them. As for seat it's more or comfort. Last of all tires the Kx comes with dunlops so will see after a couple hours

Twin-air filter +1

As has been said before, make sure the Akra exhaust will be below 100db. It's required in Ganny and a lot of other legal riding spots/clubs.

I would leave the stock tires and chain/sprox for now. Burn them up before upgrading. No sense in fixing something that aint broke.

I've got an FMF power bomb with stock can and a db dawg right now but I'm going to get an FMF Q4 can. They're designed to be quiet for trail riding. There are also tracks that have noise restrictions.

I understand but after reading up on the stock system and akro, The Akro is below the 100db mark. You guys have no idea how loud the stock system is, The can is 30mm shorter then last year with straight flow design. Every person who reviews the bike states its way to loud, The akro system is longer plus has a insert.

Ride your bike the way it is for now see how it is,maybe you will need a exhaust insert.Fuel injected bikes have tons of power now,a slip on quiet silencer is all you need.Wider tires are more heavy than stock if anything you want a lighter tire, you can go 1or2 teeth down on the front its cheaper for now about $14.KTM has tall bikes and I got mine lowered 1" dont shave your seat. The best aftermarket part you will appreciate is a kickstand,go get a good one and you wont always be looking for a tree to lean the bike against.

Are you sure it's 100db ? I got stopped in the Ganny 2 years ago on my CR 125 with completely stock can and I am pretty sure he said it read 96db and he told me I was right at the max allowable limit. Then again I may be remembering incorrectly.

Havent Updated this thread. Maybe Johnny can post some pics of the progress. I always forget to take pics

Not much to show yet, tear down and stripping/prep work sucks. I should have a lot more to show this week, I will have the rest of the blue, and black powder coated parts back, and I should also have all the black anodizing done also

For now here is all I have
Some tear down

IMG_1884_zpsbc4fafa7.jpg

Forks disassembled for re-anodizing of the fork tubes, and powder coating of the fork bottoms
IMG_1899_zps373ada08.jpg

Some of the blue parts that were done
