KLR 650 vs DR650 ...which is best ?

In my search for an occasional off road bike, I came across an owner of both models that wishes to sell them. Both are late 2000 models with similar mileages.

I can only afford one of them and without searching the web for hours on either one, does anyone have a perspective on which bike you'd recommend ?
 
Both are tried tested and true. This is like asking Ford or Chevy? My point is, for occasional off road both are great bikes and both have pros and cons. I have no brand loyalty I love bikes period. I was in your shoes in the spring, i wanted an off road capable bike that could cruise at highway speeds. I ended up with a KTM 690 enduro, its lighter and has more power but thats what i was looking for. If you are trying to decide on either of those bikes, i would pick the one that speaks to you. :)
 
the klr is known to be slightly more road biased (better seat, better wind protection, etc)
the dr is known to be slightly more offroad biased(less weight, better suspension etc)
 
I’ve owned 2 DR650’s over the years. Simple, go anywhere machines. Kind of primitive but you can dress them up to go anywhere on earth. And I never had any problems with either of them except it’s not the greatest on the highway.m
 
I have two DR650's (his and her's). Love 'em. Price wise for the DR650, take into account you will likely have to put on a bigger tank and better seat (or airhawk).
