Kid's bike ownership?

I'm looking for a small, 50 cc, bike for a kid. Preferably, Honda CRF/XR 50 or Yamaha TTR 50. I noticed, that many ads on kijiji mention that they don't have an ownership. Should I be concerned about it (like stolen, etc.)? Do these bike have to be registered?

It's not uncommon because people don't know any better. I won't go into it again but there was a whole thread about this and let's just say that some people have different views.

You WILL require insurance to ride the bike anywhere but your own property (I believe race tracks have special insurance so you don't need to, BUT PLEASE CHECK AND CONFIRM, I'm not 100% sure). If you need a plate you WILL need an ownership.

If your only concern is whether it's stolen or not, run the VIN here http://www.cpic-cipc.ca/English/ind...EN=54211321&jsessionid=bc30431881364781246637. Or call the police and ask them to. Every vehicle made since 1980 will have a VIN. On the bike it should be on the front neck of the frame.

CHECK THE VIN SO YOU DON'T GET BURNED.

No there isn't a theft ring involving 50cc minibikes. They don't have ownerships because they don't get plated and ridden on the road.

Come on. You need to have them plated to ride on trails. I got burned, I don't want to see someone else get burned.

Thanks for the reply! Sorry, I've never dealt with mini bikes, and don't know anything regarding a legal side of it. Do I understand correctly, that if a bike is ridden anywhere outside a private property, if must have plates and an insurance? And it's impossible to get them without ownership? Who issues plates for these bikes? MTO? Is an insurance required by law or it's optional? Of course, the bike is not going to be ridden on public roads. Who insures mini bikes? Just any insurance company?

Insurance is required off of property you own except for a track that has its own insurance the plate is from the MTO. Check around with different insurance companies.

Thanks guys! I did some search, and found contradictive info. Apparently, some people could easily register bikes with just bill of sale and afidavit, but others had a lot of issues. Seems like it depends on how luckly you are :). In my case (known my luck), it's probably not worth it :(.
