Key switch / Kill switch... continued

Ok, A few days ago I was asking if using the kill switch was better or worse than the key switch (or kick stand as many people pointed out) in order to turn off the bike.

WELL now I am having problems with the key switch, only the issue isn't with turning the bike off, it is turning the bike on. Its a brand new 2011 CBR 250RA. It turns from the lock position to the off position no problem, but every day for the past three days it doesnt want to turn to the on position. I have had to take the key out a couple of times and re-insert it in order to get it to turn on.

Has anyone heard of this problem with the new 2011's? Its kind of ironic that this issue comes up after the whole key switch / kill switch (and kickstand) debate.

Atleast it's under warranty still

The only thing I can think of is that you have to push the key down in order to turn it to the 'On' position.

mroberto makes a good point, and if that still gives you a hard time, try the spare key and see if it makes a difference.

May the key is still fresh and has some burrs on the teeth. If you have a wire wheel for a drill, try smoothing out the teeth. Or rub some graphite anti-sieze on it.

I used the spare key and it worked no problem. After I used the spare, the other key now works no problem. Maybe there was a little burr inside of the lock cylinder. Thanks for the help all.

As crazy as this sounds - I've had the same issue but usually is fixed if i pull in the clutch and then turn key to on. (even though I'm already in neutral).

give that a try if it happens again.
