Got my renewal from TD of $1829. Looked around and got a quote from John Duffy, lower deductable and it's $1294! I'm switchin' baby!

Post would be much more helpful with age, bike and underwriter...

If you have the time and you haven't collected any HTA tickets, it generally a good idea to shop around. Doesn't matter who you are with, you might find a better rate elsewhere. And do the same with your other vehicle(s) and residential coverage too.

Yeah, sorry about that. I was in a hurry. The point of me posting is that every year, we all should shop around. Last year TD was best by far, but this year, it's someone else. Don't be complacent.

I'm 54 riding a GSX650F with a clean record. Underwriter is Jevco on this one. TD is Primmum.

I do this every year with my cars too, and pretty much always save money.

The savings just paid for a Yoshi R77.

wouldn't Statefarm be cheaper??

Probably not for a GSX650F. Generally speaking, State Farm is cheap for Super Sport bikes, and expensive for everything else (unless it is your first year of riding).

While State Farm might be cheaper on bikes, the total cost of their policies, assuming home/auto coverage, may end up wiping out any savings. After shopping around, I ended up switching to TD from StateFarm (quotes below)

State Farm (no knowledge of my 1 speeding ticket 2 years ago)
R1: 1100
Car: 2600
Home: 700

TD (knowledge of my speeding ticket 2 years ago)
R1: 1600
Car: 1400
Home: 500

Of course, people always have to determine whether or not the multi-vehicle discount is significant enough to forgo possible cost savings by insuring your car with a cheaper insurer. TD and State Farm are the only option for SS bikes, but TD is only competitive when the insured is over the age of 30.

Both quotes seem rather high given the bike, your age and driving record. I think you should shop around a little more.

Really eh? I figured based on the prices, that we were talking about a young buck here.

State farm has been increasing their rates on me since 06 when I got my new then ZX10R, I switched my policy over to PC ins. and it is underwritten by Pilot and it went down by nearly half on my 08 ZX10R living in DT Toronto. There are others out there aside from TD and SF, you just have to shop around.

I called TD after talking to my State Farm broker about adding another bike to the family stable. Going over to TD for just the bikes alone would have saved me about $1200 per year. Adding my car and home it saves me a total of about $2200.

The State Farm broker was very understanding when I said I couldn't help but move. Apparently with huge recent losses, the SF rates have had to be jacked way up.

I don't know but your rate does not seem low.

I am 13 years younger than you and pay 1800$ a year liability for a GSX1300 with TD. Have M2 since 1.5 year ago.

That rate seems high to me as well TD quoted under 1000 total for my ninja 250 and SV650 , I am 18 yrs younger than you.

I got caught out this year because I was too busy to really shop around, but I was happy to save the $500. Hopefully next year will be better, but I can't believe the difference in prices. Makes one wonder about the legitimacy of the insurance game sometimes.

Just got my renewal from Duffy. $907 -- almost $400 less than last year. Apparently living in Scarborough keeps it high. Jumped $300/yr when I moved here from the Beach.

Living anywhere near the GTA keeps it high! I was unimpressed with the 21% increase from Riders Plus for my 2012/2013 coverage and called for a quote from Duffy this year, $981 was the best they could do. I went with TD this year because they quoted $760 for the same coverage. Clean record with no tickets or claims in 10+ years, 30+ years riding and insured with a full M, 1 Mill liability, plus Fire + Theft on my ST1100.

I gotta move farther away from the COTU.

I think TD has switched to Meloche Monnex this year who my buddy swears by for his insurance. TD used to be a joke on mcycles

$474 for the 2009 Burgman Exec ( replacement value $12k ) for minimal coverage. $591 for collision and comp which also is not bad.

That's cheaper than Jevco was last year and before my multiple vehicle discounts which will knock another $30-40 off.
