Helo GTA Motorcycle...I just recently became interested in motorcycles and thought I'd sign up to this forum. I've never rode on a motorcycle and just most recently (although late in to the season) got my M1. I signed up for the RTI Riding Basics course next weekend and I have a 2000 Ninja 500r waiting for me. The bike was handed down to me by my cousin and should prove to be a useful 1st bike for myself.

I am a bit excited and nervous for the riding course but it should be ok. Does anyone have any advice for a newbie like myself? I've watched videos and read up on things and I have the concepts down - although nothing can compare to practical experience. I've played around with the bike just to walk it around and go in a straight line in 1st gear in our lot/driveway. I am reluctant...I refuse to take the bike on the street until I get my M2. I think it's the right thing to do so I will be patient.

Anyway, drop a line if you have some tips for someone like me :)

Welcome to the forums! Good first bike.

The course is a good first step. Make sure you bring lots of water! I drank 4 litres/day and that wasn't enough for me. And being able to get the bike rolling in a straight line before the course will free you up a bit more to focus on the other stuff.

They will teach you a lot of good habits (eyes always up, look where you want to go, shoulder checks, balls of the feet on the pegs, etc). The only habit I think I didn't maintain after the course was fingers off the levers. I now ride with two fingers on the levers usually.

If you have any questions, I'll try my best to answer. But the course is fun, and you'll have a great time

Welcome!!

Welcome and taking a rider training course is a great idea.

By the way, the Ninja 500R is a great first bike.
