Hi everyone,

I just passed my M1 this morning (with flying colours after studying over the weekend) and I am very excited to say the least. I already have my safety course booked at Centennial College in a few weeks. I have no previous motorcycling experience (never ridden before) but I did love to ride my bicycle when I was growing up. I'm from the Scarborough area and am looking forward to learning a lot here. I hope to buy my first bike soon after and have no idea what to look for as I'm just starting out.

Welcome =) be safe and see you on the road.

Hey me too! I found the ninja 400r to be my best balance of power, cost, insurance ... Take a look, brand new for 2011

Welcome!!

Welcome and congrats. Cruiser or sport bike?

Thank you, currently I'm still without a bike. I would figure that I get a feel for all the different ones available once I take my safety course in a few weeks. I'm definitely learning towards something with a small number of cc's (under 250) as I have never ridden a motorcycle before and want something easy to control. What would you recommend for something small, light and nimble?

Welcome to the forum and congrats! There are plenty of options out there in the 250 range, you'll just have to get out and get on them to see which one fits you best. Good luck.

New Honda 250 CBR; light, ABS(!), upright seating, fuel injected, yet torque'y for city riding.

Great! I will look more into those suggestions once I finish my course and hopefully get my M2.

My main concern is the cost of insurance for the bike so that will determine what I get to start out with.

I wanted to ask, is it true that 50cc scooters have much lower insurance rates? Would that be a better option to start out with to build up experience?

I was under the impression that the average scooter has an automatic transmission and doesn't require manual shifting. If you want to build up to riding a high displacement motorcycle, a 125 or 250 is a good start (and great on insurance too).

And congrats on your M1!

I just found out that Centennial College uses Honda CBR125's for their safety course. I'll try to get on one of those and see how I like it.

Thanks again for the warm welcomes.

congrats and welcome
