...so would everyone please hurry up and get vaccinated so the border is open in October? Thanks.

Got some decent seats up the grandstand at turn 1, and we're booked to stay downtown for the general Austin nuttery. Rental car also booked to drive to the track, and parking in Lot T.

Anyone else planning to go? Or has anyone been and have some tips or recommendations? We arrive Thursday night and leave Monday morning, so won't have time to do anything away from the track except in the evening.

I've been pulling for Quartararo, mostly because he was my preseason championship pick, but now I'm hoping for the pack to catch up a bit so the race is meaningful...

Have fun. I went the Inaugural race there and had a blast. Fri & Sat walk around the track you can check out the GA areas. Other stands will be off limits. Lots of good food in town, 6th street can be fun but can be a bit of a tourist trap with some establishments. Seek out the BBQ, I'm not sure who's best now. The huge bat colony under the bridge is fun to see them come out in at sunset.

I have been to Austin twice before on work related visits, and I know what you mean about 6th being full of tourist traps. I'm hoping there'll be some GP related stuff to check out, though.

Shame the other stands are off limits. We're still looking at doing Mugello next year (though it's looking less likely at the moment - putting a kid through university and trips to Europe are a tough combo), and the seats away from the VIP section of the main stand there are only reserved on Sunday, so you can try all the spots for FP and QP. Still, the GA sections are pretty big at COTA, so we should be able to check out the back straight and the 12-15 complex. The layout looks good on paper, but races there haven't been thrilling to date. Hopefully this year is different...

It wasn't to bad, we could still be around the other stands, just not get into and sit in them. I find it to vary track to track. Indy, Aragon & Assen Fri/Sat was a free for all. Austin and Sachsenring GA was open Fri/Sun but restricted you from other assigned seat areas.

That first year was kinda sparse, I hope they've built it up a bit. The most exiting MotoGP part outside of the track was seeing Iannone pass our table at a restaurant & the Tech3 techs enjoying the bats.
