Just an Idea

Morning Everyone
I am currently building a street-fighter (2004 CBR f4i) and i was thinking would it be possible to remove the air box and place individual air filters on each of the throttle bodies, the motorcycle is fuel injected

I do know that there is all the Hoses and vents, but that can be fixed with a distribution block. I do know there is the ATS (ambient Temp Sensor) that is plugged in the top of the box.

I do have a power-commander and wideband o2 so i can street tune the bikes A/F ( I have Tuning Exp)

Just wondering if anyone has done this before, and the results they had.

Its doable but you will lose HP.

Very possible, tuning will be required and as said above you may loose some HP in some areas of the power curve

Alot of people that use motorcycle engines in gokarts or smart cars, do away with the airbox and run pod filters or even just cloth type filter material over the throttle boddies...

What the purpose of single pods? Is it looks? Airbox desnorkeled and openned up is usually the best way imho. Pods look redneck.

It will run (with appropriate re-mapping), but generally, the airbox will include velocity stacks to get the intake runner length correct, and airbox and inlet snorkel have an effect, too. I would expect running without the airbox to kill mid-range torque.

FWIW, most roadrace bikes these days retain the airbox (modified in some cases). Mine retains the airbox. The possible gain of maybe 1 horsepower at the very top of the rev range isn't worth the loss in mid-range.

Just cause i've had an F4i apart I think i understand the OP's reason for doing this. Since he is creating a street fighter he's looking at getting rid of the ugly *** intake tubes along with the airbox since they can all be easily seen once the plastics are removed.

Then it's about looks. Depending how much one gives up power wise that's veering into poser mode. It's an individual choice obviously but does one want to put the effort and money into something that the knowledgeable enthusiast will dismiss as bogus just to impress people that don't know? There's a beauty in mechanical things. 2 cents.

You could probably run the bike without the intake tubes and keep the air box. Lots of GSXRs at the track that are like this.

the bike will run like crap without the airbox, the air box inside volume is very important to the inlet with the stacks inside for the proper engine performance
