The sooner we're shot of that lot the better. No idea why we celebrate the time we used to be ruled by inbred toffs. Monarchies belong in history books...
 
Royal trains, Royal boats all sorts of Royal this and that growing up in the UK. All such a massive waste of money. As a student I remember going to visit the Blue John Caverns and seeing that the tickets were stamped with the Duchy of Lancaster. I felt like crap when I realized my own cash was going to support these parasites by way of more than taxes.

I think the French had the right idea.

You prefer the current rule of outbred toffs, although we did have Martin for a very short stint, then?

I do, infuriating as they can be sometimes. We get the politicians we deserve, and I actually think all the cynicism about government ends up being a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Looking at things like monarchies and whatever the heck is going on in Russia is a reminder to me that however flawed various western democratic systems are, they're a heck of a lot better than the various alternatives devised to date...
