Jon Jones vs Hendo debacle

Anybody keeping up on this mess of UFC 151 being cancelled?

Any opinions?

Jones' & Greg Jackson's rationale is that it would be the biggest mistake of his career to take a fight against a different opponent (Sonnen) on short notice because he wouldn't be fully prepared.

Seems like that logic totally backfired because the guy is getting nothing but negative criticism now with many MMA sites calling him the most hated man in MMA. A lot of the undercard guys not getting pay days are ticked and more importantly, his employer -Dana/Ferttitas are disgusted with him for not doing the company a solid.. Usually having your employer disgusted with you is not so good for your career either!

I can't blame the guy. He had nothing to gain and everything to lose by taking the fight. Being the LHW champ and taking a fight on 8 days notice is definitely risky business. He has spent his whole training camp preparing for Hendo and now he would be facing someone COMPLETELY different with no time to prepare.

If he were not the champ it would be a different story, but he is so he gets to call the shots.

jones got his first fight in the UFC as a replacement for an injured fighter, and got the title shot as a last minute replacement for the injured rashad evans. He should have taken this fight and had a clause saying instant rematch if he lost. stupid and arrogant

Puss move. Its not as if Sonnen has been training to fight him either... It's a level playing field.

I kinda don't blame him. Why take a fight with Sonnen on short notice when he knows that he will have to fight him down the road and will have time to properly hype the fight and potentially make a massive amount of money for it. The rest of the 151 card sucked and the ticket sales and PPV sales were going to be weak with little to no time to market it. Maybe if they had changed it to a non-title fight.

But it does look terrible for him to pull out given his past statements about having the heart of a champion etc...

And don't forget Machida pulled out of the 152 fight with Jones. He would have had a month+ to prepare.

I think the UFC is just putting on too many fights. Injuries are way up and the quality of the cards is going down to the point that they can't overcome the loss of a fighter in a main event fight.
