Hey there. John here from Kitchener. Referred here by Macdoc and his KLR 650 adventures in Australia. I know Macdoc from my site, long time member and we've been going a bit back and forth on what bike to buy for me. (Being a 6'7", 260 pound guy) Have been looking at a lot of the Dual Sports.. Honda XR650L, Kawasaki KRL 650, Suzuki V-Strom 650, KTM 500 EXC etc... Still debating what kind of riding I'm going to be doing mostly, doesn't seem like a lot of off-road riding in Kitchener-Waterloo area.

Anyways, great to be here. Just came off a buzz this past weekend going to AMA Supercross in Toronto. Got to say hi up close to Ryan Villapoto and Jake Weimer, and see Chad hobble on his crutches. Even was in the elevator with Vanilla Ice.

Welcome!!

Welcome. A KLR-650 will get you to the trails in reasonable comfort -- I'd vote for that one (I'm terribly biased ;)

Yeah klr. I'm 6' 3" and the klr is a nice big bike. I just picked up the black 2012, and its beautiful. For $8000 you really can't go wrong. And its roomy enough to get your girl on the back.

Thanks for the warm welcomes everyone. Nice community here!

Can't wait for the day I tell everyone I finally have a bike. I'm sure the guys at Apex Cycle in Waterloo will be glad too, and that I stop bugging them in their showroom looking at the KTM's. I'm kind of partial to them for their smexyness and being a guy with Dutch background, I love the orange colour. Learning to not get attached to a particular brand though.

Almost everyday, I drive by the motorcycle training centre in Kitchener by Homer Watson and Ottawa, and I live just a couple of blocks away. I must look like a stalker, cause sometimes I just watch them do training. :D Hope to take the course there either this year or next season.

Welcome John, there is a wealth of knowledge on this board that should help with your research. Check out the local thread in the weekly rides section of the forum.
