Jevco doesn't give course discount?

So I called jevco to see if there was a discount for taking rider courses (or the m1 exit course through rti or learning curves fort my girlfriend) and they said they don't do those discounts? They want an extra 800 to add my girl and taking the course doesn't make a difference?

Can anybody confirm it deny this? My broker (hub international) has got their facts wrong before, but put me on hold to speak with the "specialist". Thanks

Viffer has said before that the course discount is essentially dead at this point for most (all?) insurers. The majority of people were taking the course so the discount didn't make sense anymore. I haven't looked at the numbers, but theoretically, to account for this, all people now pay slightly less than the "without course" price before, but more than the "with course" price.

Try SF, not sure if they do but I got a quote for 790 Full coverage, I didn't even remember to ask about the course discount. I know Riders Plus does.

Riders plus doesnt just offer a discount for taking the course, they require it if you only have your M1 or M2 to get insurance through them.

This is correct. Since the vast majority of riders take the course, it doesn't make sense to offer a discount any more (at least in the traditional sense). If rider training reduces the risk of a claim, then this will be accounted for by an improved overall claims experience (since over 95% of people have the course). As a result, everyone (regardless of whether they have taken the training or not) is paying a rate that already assumes that they have taken the course.

If a company still offers a training discount, it is purely for marketing purposes only. In this case, they would bump the rates up by 10% (since people who haven't taken the training are actually higher risk) and then offer a 10% discount to people who have taken the training.

Is there a statistical source to the claim or it's just based on the data your company would have, assuming the question is asked during applying for rates? In which case I'd think that most people say yes (thinking they get a discount without any proof required), but actually very low percentage will take the course. My guess would be 50:50 ....

How many people do you know who didn't take the course? My company doesn't have that many motorcycles, but based off the info I have read here on the forum it sounds like the vast majority of riders take a training course.

So, this forum is the ultimate source of quality data??? LOL

Would you not agree that a person who took the course the vs. one who didn't, the one who did is better off and better prepared for the traffic dangers and thus less likely to claim. Just saying ....

Yes, I agree, but we essentially give everyone the discount whether they took the course or not. Since very few people get their M-class license without taking the course, it is nearly impossible to determine the amount that they should be surcharged.

But those numbers are based on previously needing to take an approved course to receive a discount.

You should create a poll and find out how many wouldn't have taken the course if it was a requirement.

I think you mean "if it was NOT a requirement", and that's a very good point; however, I believe that many insurers require that you complete the course before they will even agree to insure you (at least for operators under 25yo).
