Jdm/Import mechanic?

I want to bring in my 1988 yamaha fzr250 (2kr) for carb balances, checking valve clearances and float bowls, and possibly rejetting, and any other big ticket maintenance. Basically a whole bunch of stuff I wouldn't trust myself to do. I know that the previous owner used to bring it to cyclewerx, but I didn't have the greatest experience there last time.

Wondering who would be the best mechanic who specializes, or is at least experienced with JDM bikes. Preferably within the GTA. Apparently Nuak (shop that imports bikes) has a mechanic, but at $40 an hour, I'm skeptical about the quality of work.

FYI I already have most of the parts I need. About to order sprockets, chains, and clutch plates + springs for the fizzer.

Hopefully anyone else with an import can give me details.

There is nothing special about what you want to do. Z1 Cycletech, Pro 6 Cycle should be able to do it, the one possible gotcha is that some shops don't like working on bikes that could be difficult to get parts for (whether because the bike is old, or because it was never sold here). Under normal circumstances, the work that you want to do shouldn't require any parts that are specific to that bike, but all it takes is to discover a leaking seal or gasket that is unobtainium. Only way to find out, in your particular situation, is to ask them.

You might want to beg BrianP. He is prob the most well rounded fzr person around here.

But older bike means issues if it's been messed with.

Ill see if I can wait... But I kinda wanna get back on for the 15th for my groups ride (weather permitting of course)

I know most (if not all) import guys do work on their own stuff. And I'm slowly getting there, but I don't have the tools to do some of the stuff, and I want to make sure it gets done right. I don't mind having to pay up the ***, obviously up to a certain amt. I consolidated a list of what to do, and it's pretty big.

Fuel filter
Oil filter
Air filter
Steel braided brake lines
Throttle cables
Clutch plates
Front and rear sprockets
Chain
Mirrors
Power cables
Spark plugs
Break pads

I already have most of this stuff, and the rest is in transit

As for service:
Adjust valve clearances
Clean carbs and sync
Adjust can chain
Replace brake fluids
Lube all cables

Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction. I'm sure there's someone within the GTA that specializes with JDM bikes.

Call Ultimate Cycle in Hamilton, it's on Barton Street. The owner is a good guy and doesn't charge insane prices either. He has rare bikes himself and is no stranger to imported bikes. He will sort anything that you need done. He's busy though so I wouldn't wait until it's warm out.

Believe it or not, there really is not. This is Toronto, not London, UK ....

Best is to do it yourself with help of someone who has the experience.

Where in GTA do you live?

There is nothing whatsoever special about what you want to do ... other than sourcing the parts. Any shop can do it. I know Frekeyguy is trying to sell my services but I'm going to have no weekends available for months. If the question had come in November then it might have been a different story - but not at this time of year.

If you have the parts we need I can do it. I actually bought one of these for my ex years ago and tore it all down. Also there is a company called Rising Sun in CA that can get anything within two weeks just above retail.
