Jack Miller is trying to sell his 2018 helmet to help raise funds for the NSW fires. It's on the bid for a whopping USD 7000+. He is ready to sign it and send it to you or a loved one.

Question is how really expensive is this helmet? Surely, a MOTOGP helmet, custom fit to the rider's head with all the aerodynamic features on it is worth around this price? Racer replicas go for around USD 1000+ but they are replica for a reason ( and not just because of similar color scheme). Could this be a good deal?

What if this was MM93's helmet? :O !! Would the price be justified?

I would assume anyone who has that kind of money for the helmet would never wear it, Id put it in a display case in my living room as Im sure the new owner will.

The point of the sale is not the "worth" of the helmet, its for charity. Its "worth" whatever it sells for to whoever buys it.

I'm pretty sure that MM93's helmet would fetch multiple times that. Blue chip piece of memorabilia.

This isn't about what the helmet is worth. It's about someone making a donation to help with the Australian wildfire situation, and getting something special for a trophy case in return. Evidently it sold for A$18,000.

The MotoGP/WorldSBK helmets have a spoiler-like extension on the back, surely for aerodynamic reasons. No off-the-shelf helmet that I've bought has that ...

I found one...

AGV Pista GP-RR Essenza 46 Motorcycle Helmet | The Visor Shop.com

comes complete with hydration pack and the aerodynamic wing ( removable) but again a 'replica'.

I think I have not explained my question in a straight forward manner. My question was simply asking whether AUD$ 18,000 is a good fetch price for a helmet.I do not attempt to question WHY the helmet is being sold( I know it's being sold off for a great cause!)

F1 steering wheels cost upwards of $50K. If a team standing dead last in the points ( think "Minardi" in the 90s) sells a steering wheel off for charity( or w/e cause.) and it sells for $32K , I'd say this was a great catch!

Judging by the responses I've received, I think it's safe to say it went for far more $$ than its actual production value
