It's a bloody Christmas miracle!

With all the great weather lately, I've resisted the urge to go out and ride. Main reason being that I haven't taken care of my bike.

I didn't store it. It sat in my garage, on the tires, half empty tank, no stabilizer, no battery tender, no oil change. Almost the worst things you could do to a bike, save for leaving it outside in the elements. Stopped riding back near the end of November.

After less than 3 mins of cranking, she started right up. Took another few minutes of warming her up and probably getting gunk outta the lines and carburetor. Put her right back inside until I have time to tear her down and give her the TLC she needs.

Bloody miracle that it started up I tell you. Kids, don't do what I did.

Uh, I never "winterize" my bikes and they always starts on the first shot. Do an oil change before the first ride and done deal....

Miracle my ass.

Kick start from second gear works too, you could even attach pedals in case it quit during ride, o and plastic bottle if tank start to leak.

Have a bike that's been sitting in my garage for 3 years...half tank full.....i'll bet you if I put a battery in her, she will start after 2 - 3 attempts.

Not surprised that your bike took 3 mins to crank over...Carb float bowls were probably bone dry. Next time turn your petcock on prime before you start cranking.

I know comparing a bike to a lawnmower or snowblower isn't neccessarily the best but, I don't winterize the lawnmower or summerize the snowblower. The fuel does just fine.

Now I treasure my motorcycles so, I do have them on battery tenders, put in fuel stabilizer and change out the fluids.

Just saying, a bike can sit for a bit and should start up fine.

Ah, forgot about this. Thanks for the tip, I'll make sure to remember that one.

:-(

Seriously? I just figured winterizing was a necessity, just in terms of the fluids and the battery keeping charge. No need to make fun, edumacate me!

you started a thread with a joking tone though, but no one else is allowed to joke with you? c'mon :p

Spent 5 minutes cranking mine today and wondering why I wouldn't start...then I realized I hadn't turned the kill switch on

This will be my 3rd season, sue me for not having the experience. :p

its not your fault, if you read some threads on here you get the idea that bikes are going to explode after non-winterization... you know... with oil turning into acid, gas into apple juice, and the evil salt monsters clawing at your garage looking for any kind of nook or cranny to crawl through to get at your bike.

the bike actually cranks with kill switch on? first i've heard of this lol. what bike?

2011 CBR125R. It surprised me as well, which is why it took me so long to figure out what I'd done wrong.

New to me too. My SuperDuke's kills switch is different too; there NO POWER to anything if the switch is off (dash, lights, etc...), may as well just turn the key off.

i filled mine with shell 91 and put stabilizer in, had it on a battery tender and mine fired up mid feb with less than 30 seconds of cranking. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, imo.
