Is tuning required when replacing stock exhaust?

I own an 06 600 gixxer. Considering removing the stock exhaust(1piece catalytic and tailpipe) and replacing it with a two brothers tail pipe and straight section of pipe. I inquired at a shop and was informed that some tuning on the dyno will need to be done for the best performance due to no longer having a catalytic. No need to install a power commander. Honestly i'd rather not have to put in a power commader(i hear quite a few negative experiences)
Can anyone reccomend the best shop.
Thanks for you input.

You will have to get it dyno'ed or install a PCV.
I had mine in for quite a while and never had an issue.
I just loaded the generic map from the power commander website and the bike has been running well since.

How much are you paying for the Two Brothers?

Do you really need peak horsepower? Are you racing the bike or just riding on the street?

Odds are it will run fine without any additional fuel management system. It just won't make peak horsepower.

This. The two brothers is CRAZY loud. If you're doing it for sound you won't need to get it tuned. You'll loose a little power down low but up top she'll be fine.

And why Two Brothers? Their carbon fiber quality has been crap for the last while, starts to spider crack from regular use, and god forbid you ever run it on the dyno and melt it :(

If you just wanna make some noise and shave some weight these are priced great and sound awesome (way better than two bro's in my opinion, and the CF quality is 100x better too!) : http://www.dan-moto.com/DM_INT/gsx-r-600-750-k6-k7-2006-2007-gp-carbon-product-192.html

You will run lean in mid to high RPM, the throttle will be more "snappy" and jerky, you will backfire all the time off throttle, possibly shoot flames.

When i did my 08 750 gsxr swap to 06/07 header with no cat into a Akra shorty i noticed a def change in the bike on part throttle. Even a generic PCIII map helped a lot.

i'll get it dyno'ed. i do not want to make too many mods.(by installing the power commander) the two brothers exhaust came on the bike and the first owner informed me he didnt have the bike re-tuned. I removed it and put the stock exhaust back.

Thanks for your input. i'm after the best of both worlds with what i have without to many mods. By additional fuel management you mean the install of the power commander? Can i get away with just the dyno and achieve a little more horse power. will i be compromising the performance of the bike elsewhwere?

Thanks for the link. i like the look of the two bros. its close to the stock in terms of length. the two bros also came with the bike.

If you dyno it you will need the power commander to make changes to the air/fuel mixture, unless they can remap your ECU directly.

Is that how people are cooking chicken strips these days!?
Yeppers, cooks em off good :)

I've never had a problem with a PCIII or PCV and would recommend one (currently using a PCV). Either way you go you're not likely to see much, if any, peak power increase but you'll likely cure any nasty throttle abruptness and clean up the flat spots in the powerband (likely to be in the low to midrange after your cat delete).

if you are going to do all that for a slip on, might as well spend the few extra bucks and get a full system.

"required" depends on the bike and the exact setup in question, and also your requirements....Every bike and exhaust combo is different, some run well enough without any tuning, others get really bad flat spots and hesitation. I have had full systems run almost perfect with no tuning at all, even after tuning very little increase in smoothness or HP at all, and basically a waste of money...Then on the other hand I've had bike with just a slipon that ran like crap without tuning...

It really depends on what you want out of the bike, and how smooth you require it to be for your liking...I wouldn't tune now because of the cold weather conditions, you should tune in the weather that you do most of your riding in...If you tune for this weather it will run like crap in the summer, unless you have some sort 02 sensor tuning unit to make changes, or want to pay for more re-tuning in the summer....

Some people have really badly tuned bikes, and think nothing of it...I'll test ride it and tell them it runs like crap, but its good enough for them so they just leave it...Ive been at a shop when a customer was complaining about a flat spot when he holds his bike steady at about 8000RPM, only to have the tuner tell him "well then how about you don't hold the bike at 8000PRM" LOL

Are u sure? The throttle will be sluggish and unresponsive

You will run lean in mid to high RPM, .
I thought you will run lean down low? Its normally lean on low rpm and richer at high, this is for better emissions. Unless things have changed.

OP just get it tuned. For Suzuki u can tune the ecu or get a PC with the proper map
